rearend gears

ok, i found out what size gears i need, but how do u install them, and if they have to be put in profesinaly, how much does it usually gost, thanks

I would say have them professionally done. If you are off even a little your rear will explodde in like 500 miles. I got a price from Drive train specialists for an auburn gear, eaon posi unit installed for 900. I know that seems like alot but those are the best peices you can put in the car.

Like said, rear gears are one of those things that has to be done perfectly, with precise measurements, and I doubt the most people have the tools for it. I got a good deal by a local guy for $150.

they're not hard to do, but require some specialized tools most people don't have. 2 hours flat rate should be about right for setting them up.

Use a tranny/rear end shop though. I'm now finding that most of them'll charge you about $200 labor...last year I paid $500 labor to my general mechanic.

i put a new posi in my car about 2 months ago. it wasn't really that hard but as said you need some special tools which i had access to.


PS. i'm only 16 years old and i did it my self. i haven't had a problem yet(knock on wood).
