Switching trannys

I recently completely destroyed my 5 speed tranny and had to buy another one. A guy sold my one that he said was from a z28 but was really from a 6 cyl. i need to know if i change the pilot shaft to a 26 spline and it still work or will the tranny work at all. Also what were the gear ratios for that tranny.
thanks, 25thZ28

Welcome to the club!!

I have destroyed umm.. 3 700 t4 trannys to date. The last one I pulled from a blazer. I had to change the output shafts because the blazer was 4 wheel drive and had a much shorter shaft.

IT will take some work, I think it will be easier use you have a manual. Just take it slowly and take pictures and write down how things went together.

Try not to beat on it right after you change teh shaft. It need to break in with the tranny.

Good luck!

A guy at a transmisson place is having a clutch made that wil fit my tranny and my flyWheel and pressure plate. What i want to know will this tranny be able to hold up to the power that the 305HO puts out or will it ultimately be screwed to.

a 305 ho

I think it can handle it, that is what I am running right now. IF it is an auto there is no fly wheel, just a flex plate

I am running a 305 ho

It is a 5 speed but it came out of a 6 cyl. and it has different gear ratios and i was curious as to if it would hurt my performance.
Thanks, 25thZ28

Umm...

Does it have higher gears?

It would make a little sense to me if it did, and if it did you should have alittle better proformance, you should accelerate more quickly.
