NEED help from a pro, 700R4 rebuilt (long but desperate)
1988 GTA 5.7liter, rebuilt tranny is an '88 case, and a 30 spline input shaft.
Problem #1: I recently bought a rebuilt 700r4 from a large wholesaler my parts store uses. I ordered it with some up grades(their shift kit, a vette servo, and a 2075 stall). I got it in and it was shifting way way too early(4 grand). I adjusted the TV cable after the install, so I was thinking it must be the wrong governor, so I swapped the one over from my core(stock GM tranny that shifted at 5200 when it was in the car). I expected it to be right but it wasn't, it wanted to shift above 6 grand! Okay, what the heck could be different on the new tranny that would make the correct GM governor for this car not be right? I have now tried 3 different governors and have a fourth on order with a weight size in between the others(hoping it will be right, but doubtful). What do I do, TV cable seems good, am I adjusting it wrong?
Problem #2: My torque converter was acting funny on the lock up(staying locked on highway even if I goosed the throttle). I tried that test with the brake lights, and it failed. However it does unlock sometimes though, just not like it did with the OEM. Okay, so I called the company, they informed me that they converted it to hydraulic lock up instead of electronic. I was like WTF? I want it to be OEM, especially since my custom chip I'm going to purchase modifys TC lockup via electronicly. So They said they would send me the stuff to convert it back(I have installed sever shift kits so they figured I'd be able to handle it myself). He told me that he though it involved moving some check ***** maybe besides just hooking up the wires. I was told that they would incluse some instructions, oh and a new tail shaft(they sent the wrong one w/ the new tranny). Okay the package arrives and all that is there is the electronic stuff, but no instructions and no tail correct F-body tail shaft I might add.(I will just reuse my old one). Now, to make this conversion, is it straight forward, or do you really have to move check ***** and other things? They have one of their shift kits installed, so I bet they are not in OEM locations anyway and I was give NO instrustions! Am I getting screwed? Please help me guys, I just want it to function like an OEM Trans Am should, and also shift where it should. I am going to call them Monday afternoon and see what's up, but knowledge is power so I need PRO BUILT or one of you guys that know to advise me!
Oh. if need be, I could call you at your shop tomorrow or something(e-mail me), let me know if you need more info...Thanks a million!

By all accounts, you should be able to make the solenoid change without taking off the valve body. To make it lock hydraulicly, they put in a checkball in the TCC solenoid. If you install it back the way it should be, (withpout the checkball) it should work ok.
Thanks for the info! Hey so where is this check ball? Is it obvious, or do I have to know exactly which one. In otherwords, will I not be able to install the Lock up harness and solenoid without first removing the check ball, or is it possible to accidently screw it up. I think this thing they sent is the solenoid so it isn't installed yet so I do not see where any check ball could be in it, is it in the hole on the valve body or something?
The check ***** are in little grooves or holes in the valve body. You need to take this off (messy if still in the car) and follow the directions as to which one you must remove (actually, which ones to put back in because they'll probably fall off if your tranny is still in the car).
