TH200 to 700R4..

I have an 83 T/A with a 200 that is just about toast...wondering how much of a job it would be to swap the 700R4 out of an 83 Chevy van into the car...I know that the shifter in the console will have to be changed, plus will have to get a torque arm adapter...crossmember change ???...what about the speedo and driveshaft yolk ???...all help would be mucho appreciated.

Are u going to use the car for high performance / or just chill out in it? If youre going the HP route I would do a 350 trans! The 700r4 only good point is the overdrive. Everybody & their mother are having problems with this 700r4 trans shifting from 2nd-3rd gear! You have to take your foot of the gas to make the trans shift. Just try explaining that to a ***** racer when he beat U in a race.
U have all the parts right now to do the job.U will need the torque arm bracket B&M sells to drop a 350 trans into your car with no problems
the 700r4 trans cost soooo muchhh to fix modify ETC. Try buying a torque converter for a 700r4 trans! $700-1000 for a converter.

It's 3rd to 4th that won't shift WOT unless you buy the upshift sleeve from GM for like 20 bucks shipped. Course I can run up to about 125 to 130 mph in 3rd gear (3.27) before I need to worry about shifting. I would say talk to Dana at Pro-Built he knows a lot about transmissions.

Actually, some of us are having problems with WOT 2-3 shift as well. Last Saturday, I ran through the traps in 2nd even though I was past the power band and the shifter was in 3rd. Word is that a worn or loose 3-4 clutch pack will cause this symptom, even though it'll operate fine in other conditions.

700's built right are just as strong as a built up TH350, with the advantage of an overdrive & lower (3.06 vs. 2.74) first gear. The only advantage of TH350 is it's cheaper.
