Me vs. fuel filter
If you guys remember my fuel lines were frozen to my filter. So all last week I sprayed it with WD-40. Went out Saturday to change it. Started on the outlet side. Put the wrenches on, and twisted. Oh good, it broke loose. Then I realize, oh no. Broke the fuel line. Fortnately the inlet side was no probelem. Came off clean.
So I take a ride to Auto-Barn. Walk up to the counter and explain to him what happened. Waste of time. All he says is "Well ya gotta replace the fuel line." So I walk out. Mumbling a few things.
Ok lets try Pep Boys. Looking at the signs, I see a section "Fuel System Repair". Oh good, they have kits for exactly my scenario. But are the fuel lines 3/8 or 5/16? Aw hell, get one of each.
Get home, and my dad had cut the broken line back past where it curves. Ok, so we go to sears and get a bender. Get home, dad starts bending. "They got any more these kits?" Yup, kinked the new line.
Back to Pep Boys to exchange the 5/16 kit for another 3/8. Get that home, carefully bend it, and install. Connect fuel pump, turn key. No leaks
Total cost: $35
Time: 2.5 hours
But it was worth it. Car starts better cold and no hesitation from stops.

Funny I was in the garage the other day askingthem about this same thing. It was 7.99 for the flared pipe so times that by 2. I was like right on. of course I am back in school. So the gas tank is now in place. Just needs to be bolted up.
Good to hear it worked out perfect. maybe I too will invest in this.

Kit included basically a 18" piece of fuel line (also 36" available). Pretty much same material as our fuel line. at one end it has the fitting that attaches to your filter. Attach that to the filter, and bend and cut to match up to a good portion of your line. Then you just install a compression fitting on the ends. Costs about $13. Bending tool was $6 at sears.
Also, all the fittings in the kit are brass, so hopefully Iwont have to do this again.
