shifter/ transmission hopping?

i ran into some trouble with my car. here is the scenario:

92 3.1 with a 5 speed
i am stoped at a light, it goes green and i put it in first gear,
as a moderatly press the accelerator, the shifter kinda jumps straight up a few inches...(same results in 2nd) it never did this before. it used to hop around a little but not nearly this much... if i do 75% throttle it kinda hits something under the car... makes the car feel as if it is "hopping"
, i think my transmission mounts are worn... what do you think? plus, how much are transmission mounts?

The trans mount IS THE SAME as for an automatic transmission. Go ask the V8 guys on the Transmission board.

That "special mount" that some V6 manual trannies have is not needed. Really. Go ask on the trans board and see what they say. This was a lonnng debate a lonng time ago here. Here's one message:

Here's my favorite, the original debate:

And like I said, go do a search on the Trans/Drivetrain board.

Once again go to an auto parts store and ask for a manual tranny mount for a 92 camaro. They will tell you they don't have it.

I went to Napa, Blankenship(like Napa)(hell they said falt out we don't stock, nor can we get it) and Auto zone(hell they said falt out we don't stock, nor can we get it). And I never did get a pic from that company of the tranny mount. I was never given a deffinate answer yes this will fit, so I went dealer. And I have bought auto trans mounts from dealer and they were not $156 bucks. they were $15. So if the mounts are the same why charge 130 something more for the same mount????...

Read the messages I listed above. GM made a different mount for the manual transmissions, but many people have used the auto trans mount on their manual transmissions without problem. And RPS, go ask (or do a search) on the regular Transmission board- they'll tell you the same thing.

I changed my cross-member and trans. mount to the kind used for auto transmission.

My old trans. mount had a rubber damper.
And the cross-member had a gap in the middle, to house the rubber damper.

I went to Pick-n-Pull and got a cross member (ones used on auto trans.) for $16.
Went to Kragen and bought the trans. mount (for auto tans.).

I used the old nuts and bolt.

I did this on a Sunday (hence, the dealers were closed).
The dealers would've charged me an arm and leg anyway :-)
