I bought an F-bird! And a question.

Hi,
I purchaced an 88 Firebird 2.8 With t-tops! It has 120,000 miles. One tear on the seat, ok blue paint, and a riped headliner and a small dent in the fender. Over all good condition for 700. I'll have pics when i get off my lazy butt and take some.

It has two problems. The timming was off, that took like a whole 10min to fix. And the cat is rotted out. Where is the cheapest place i can buy a direct fiting converter, that way i don't have to mess with the pipes?
Thanks,
Jim

You can call up Summit and ask for a high flow cat with a 2.5" inlet, and 2.5" flanged ball outlet, by Catco. That's the direct-fit high-flow cat. I don't know prices/part #s for stock ones. Or, I can be nice, and give you the part #: CTO-4115 , look up the price at summitracing.com ! Welcome to the V6 f-body world!

With this cat, i will not have to modify the leingth of the pipes in any way? And it will fit right up to my stock exhaust, which is 2.25", correct? Sorry if it seems repeditive i am just trying to clarify, that last time i took advice from some ford fans i was left with an engine with a spun bearing!
Thanks for the help.

It will fit right up no mods needed. I did this about 6 months ago and the only thing I had to do was take it to a muffler shop to have them chop the old one off becuase the old one was frozzen on. Having the old one frozzen on is the problem that you MIGHT run into. Other then that it is a strait bolt on replacment.

Yep, what he said, direct fit is direct fit. You can ruin the old flange of your old cat to get it off. A screwdriver & hammer work well. You want to peel back the cat's flange, and try not to damage the y-pipe. If you dent the y-pipe, you can rent a tailpipe expander which will bring the end of the pipe back to a round shape.
