The wire for the engine temp gauge is a green one, and can be found at the "Front" of the "driver's side head", right below the lip of the "driver's side valve cover". It'd wind up being behind the a/c compressor. As ya look at the front of the engine from the bumper, the a/c compressor is at the top driver's side of the motor.

I don't think you have an electrical problem with your temperature gauge. Mine did the same thing I turned on the ignition switch and the gauge stuck way over 260. I tapped on the front of the gauge and it fell back where it should have been but after a while it would not return by tapping on the gauge. I ended up drilling 1/16th hole in the gauge face and knocked the needle back down. Then I drilled another hole at the 12:00 o'clock position and left the drill in it now when I turn on the key the gauge pegs out on the drill and returns to normal operating range.

stuck needle

My temp needle was stuck and annoyed me for the longest time. I finally took some clear plastic tubing and cut a very small piece and stuck right in there. The needle will hit and bounce right back to normal like it should. The little tube is not noticeable at all and works great.
