stupid transmission :(
TH700R4 turbo auto w/ OD
hey i was backing up in my friends driveway yesterday and it was a very VERY steep grade but the i stopped and put on brakes while i was still in reverse to wait for him to get in the car but i let off the brakes a lil and it started rolling forward> and then it kept going slowly forward and i got scared and slammed on brakes and put in park and put hand brake on to make sure it was not moving anywhere. i look under car where tranny is and it seems normal .
i have never encountered this problem b4 and im extremly worried that my awesome tranny is going to crap out on me and i dont have the money to fix it either at this time
please tell me what is wrong and what to do about it
thanx
Berlyn
If a hill is steep enough, you can still roll forward while in reverse in an auto tranny. It's normal.
At idle on a hill, the impeller in the torque converter isn't spinning fast enough to spin the turbine which is physically linked to the trans and wheels.
Oh, and if you want to see how torque converters work, go to www.howstuffworks.com

Thats normal.
The trans is designed to hold itself on a normal grade of a hill.
But if you don't think the hill was that steep, check the fluid level it could be down. Other then that your fine.
