CAI with drop in replacement K&N

I have the big cylinder replacemert K&N filter which ul drop in the stock air box. I dont wanna spend another $35 bucks for a conical filter to make a CAI, is their a way to make a intake system with my replacmet filter? I was thinking plugging one of the ends in the filter and use the other end to find a pipe that will have the diameter of the filter hole and the other end connect to the TB, i dont know. Any suggestions, pics or drawings would help.

All I did , was hack the whole bottem of my boxes out . I had left part of them in each box to support the filters , but about 3 months about I hacked the rest of that out b/c I really dont need it . It's almost like CAI .If you have the grill on your car that kinda looks like miniblinds but bitter and they are slanted at about a 60 degree angle , that pushes the air up to your filters , and your radiator . There is a tech article on here about putting tubing from the boxes to the grill , but I have heard someone say recently when they did this it blocked there radiator air and the car ran hot . They noticed a bigger difference in power without the tubing than with it . It felt like I gained 10-15 hp after the whole set-up I did was complete . But I also have my MAF screen removed . Which I DON'T ..I REPEAT DON'T RECOMMEND , too many guys have had problems with bad maf or the car not run right .I got lucky. But you will still see a nice increase in power without removing your maf screen .

To add to this , you wont get as much air as a conical filter . But I think pulling air from under the car like that is cooler air . I have even heard a guy saying " I had a conical and switched to ramair and noticed no difference .

...but, he's got a Firebird, and has the one single filter on the passenger side of the car... I'm in the same boat, I wish I had that camaro intake.

If you can seal up the other end, I'm sure the filter would work great. You might be able to find PVC piping to fit the other side of the filter... not sure how you'd seal that together, though. Maybe with one of the flexible PVC connectors at Home Depot? I forget how wide the stock filter is.

If you can find a side air box out of a 90-up Firebird (or Camaro! They used the same box, 90-92), you might be able to mod that. Our '86 boxes suck clean air in from the top lid. The 90-92 boxes suck clean air in from the side, and have a little tube that protrudes as the "intake". You could hook a hose up to that tube and point it to the front of the car. Or, you could modify the side to take a larger hose.

We can't do a damn thing with our '86 boxes because of the way it sucks in clean air. If we tried to attach a tube to the side of our air cans, the dirty air would go around the air filter, and right into the motor.
