I know that these cars and most GM's have an issue with a hot start when the starter gets to warm. What I need to now is if relocate my solenoid would that resolve the problem?

i found a remote mount solenoid at summit for $24.95, but like to make sure that this would resolve the problem first. Or is it the starter that is getting to hot and not solenoid?

Last summer it was a PITA!!!! The car drives 170 miles Mon - Fri and when I need to stop for a pee break or gas I have to push start the car. Summer heat gets to about 110* so it is a garantee that it wont start once I shut it down, and it's all ready happened once.

 

Nevermind.......I don't think it's a big enough problem to mount a remote solenoid. I'd just replace the starter...but that's my opinion. I personally don't see GM starters causing hot start problems very often. *shrug*

You obviously have never seen my car in the summer!

The starter and solenoid sit way to close to the tranny and engine block. Once the hot summer heat hits my car is a PITA *** to start once it has been running for a while. In the winter or spring no prob at all. only the summer. Also I know they (GM) have a TSB article on it. I haven't had a chance to get a hold the article to read GM's solution to the problem, but figured that getting the solenoid away from the engine may help but don't want to do it if it is only going to solve part of the problem, and replacing a perfectly good starter doesn't seem to be verry cost effective.

 

what about some heat shields?

a small fan for in that area?

or even run some duct work so while moving it get air on it?

while your at it you could say your doing some nascar brake ducting and make a small one for the starter.
