spark plug question and exhaust is installed
Got the muffler installed. 2.5 dynomax cat and muffler with 2.5 i-pipe. Sounds great. Not too loud, but deep. Even when taking off has no ***** sound. Didn't notice much power increase, but there's still the intake to modify and the exhaust manifold gasket leak to contend with, and injectors...you've heard it all before.
It did seem to run a little cooler though down the autobahn at 90-105 mph. Don't like going faster then that, paranoid about my old timing chain, and the F@#%^&G POSTAL SYSTEM KEEPS LOSING MY SERVICE MANUAL. Need to drive some more to be sure. I need to reset the computer too. Maybe it'll help, who knows.
Ok now another of those annoying spark plug questions. Who else here is using the MSD 6A, blaster coil, accel (or holley) module, and 8.5 wires. If you are what plugs are you using. I'm using regular Bosch plugs. Couple people said don't use platinum with my particular setup. They detonate early or something. I've read on here other plugs people use, but I'm not sure if they have the same components as me. I better check my cap too, probably burning up. Haven't ordered the Accel cap yet.
PS. My new avatar is me shooting an old honda with a shotgun. It's a little hard to see. I'll get a better one soon.
Still working on putting a picture in my signiture. How the heck you all do that.

Those signature pictures always take a long time to load for the modem users...
I have an MSD 6AL, MSD Blaster SS coil, MSD 8.5mm wires- but a stock module. I've currently got Splitfires, and the center electrode is wearing down at the "back", where it faces the outer electrode. This is the second set of splitfires to do this- and it's happened since I put the MSD box on.
Previously, I had an Accel Supercoil, and MSD 8.5mm wires. Before that, I had the GM factory coil and stock wires... and all the Splitfires I used ('94-'00) never wore down. The box is probably doing it.
I put a message up a while ago on the Tech board, I think a guy said the platinums wore down, too. Everybody was using the AC plugs, and those were fine. Search the tech board for 6AL and Splitfire, you'll probably find the message.

Id advise not ordering the Accel Cap . I have heard too many bad things about it . And mine is already off my car . When I was having all that ignition trouble after a few weeks ago , when I took my cap off the middle post on my cap was real lose and the rotor was loose on the shaft . I then compared my stock rotor to the accel one and the accel one was a tad to big .I chuncked my accel cap and rotor and bought a Blue Streak one ! The inside terminals on the cap were also unbelivably worn down for only 2 months of use !!! I compared it to a Wells cap that I had , that had only been on the car for 2 years and it was not near as worn down . As for other accel parts , like plugwires , I've had good luck with them . I think Accel is like this ; you can either get good parts or bad parts . Unlike other companys where most parts are good . Love the new avateur ! Always real cool to see someone from another country lovin American cars ! I bought my camaro from a girl from Brazil , I thought it was the coolest thing !!!!

TomP, weren't you the one with the pictures of the burnt dist cap? I thought you said you were going to put an accel back on, but I might be remembering wrong.
Dam I gotta go. I'll get back later.

Yep; that was me: http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen/burnt-cap.html It's an AC/Delco distributor cap. I wanted to try something other than the Accel because of the excessive carbon tracking I'd see on the Accel unit, after only 1 year of use.
Know what? I totally forgot to email MSD about this. Oops.

I wonder if V8'ers with MSD boxes & coils have this problem with the Accel cap/rotor. Did that bluestreak cap/rotor kit have brass terminals?

I don't think they have a problem. Looking through my Summit catalog I saw plenty of performance caps, rotors, or complete distributors for 3rd gens.

Tom P about the carbon tracking inside i was reading the MSD Manual i downloaded from there website and it said to drill a 2-4 holes in the top of the distriibutor to help keep it cool and vent out you mihgt wana try that.

just dont drive thru any big or little rain puddles w/ holes in the cap. Also remember those holes when hosing off the engine.
Also, about drilling holes in the cap, will that increase air flow from those 2 little holes on the bottom plate of the distributor? they have that wire mesh on them.
