I am haveing hard start problems again!!!!!

My car is getting hard to start agian. It takes about 4 attempts to get it started. It still smokes at atartup too. And it will rev up to about 2500 rpm and slowly climb back down.

In Jan/Feb it was taking me about nine Times! Here is what I did to fix that:

Rebuilt Distritor
Holley Ignition Module
Accel Direct Fit Coil (In stock location)
AC Delco Rapidfire plugs
Borg Warner Cap, Rotor, and Pick-Up Ciol

I already had the Piece of Crap MAG PLUS 7mm wires which are not in wire seperators. The wires are pretty crappy (only thing that Super Trak sells for go d sake, only option I had at time, needed them to get car running).

I will pull the plugs to see if there is oil on them again. I had thought that I had a leaky valve cover when I found oil on them back in Jan, but I hadn't seen oil on them in a while. I did however see it on just the threads.

From the bad start up, i have thought i need new valve stem seals. I do not have an air compressor, so what do you think I would have to pay to get that done at the shop?

I plan on getting the MSD 6aL and MSD 8.5mm Super conductor wires to finish off my Ignition setup in a awhile.

I will check my spark power tonight when it is dark.

I am getting ready to go check the plugs.

LEt me know if I left something out.

After I did all that stuff in Jan/Feb I had it down to only one attempt. Though sinch maybe about march, i was getting it on the second try. Just in the past few days it started getting harder again. Could the 90 degree weather do that?

I hope the heat has not damaged the coil!!!!

Could the wires not being seperated cuase that?

I think the wires is what is causing my timing light to blink, but I do not know. I will check that too.

ok i pulled the plugs, they are just cakedwith oil, the electrote and the other thig are just almost white. I am going to get steel whool and get all theat stuff off.

I am almost positive the pass valve cover is leaking, cuase the entire plugs are just drained with oil on them.

There is black gung, kind of like dust just on the portion betwwen the threads and where the boot on the wires cover the plugs? what is up with that?

white electrades are normal right? Am i running too hot?

I am also ging to check to see if i still am getting carbon tracking and how bad that is.

man those wires suck, the heat from the manifolds are already starting to melt them. I got them in Jan!!!!!

think that is about it,back to work!!!

two main things come to mind: IAC and fuel pump

try this: turn the key to the on position and leave it there for about 5 seconds

supposedly after you havent driven the car for a little while, the fuel pump must re-prime the system

if you IAC isnt working right that can cause hard starting too

i was going to replace mine this week, but i have car insurance to pay

my thinking is that if you replace the IAC on your idle itself is still incorrect, i would try replacing the ECM and maybe even the injectors

also, hard starting is also one of the warning signs of fuel pump failure...........be on the lookout

oh yeah, i trust you recently changed your fuel filter

i hope it ain't the d@mn fuel pump cuase that was the las thing i ever took my car to the garage for, maybe areound december ish ??? not sure, but it was around there cuase i was out of a job and had to bum the money off my mom, but anyways...

I replaced the old one cuase it was niosy, boy was it noisy... but yea, lately, it has been gettting louder and i can here it "prime" as you say when i put it in the on position. The filter was changed when i bought the car in august (d@mn time flies).

my car was taking about 13 tries to get it started, thats why i changed the pump, went down to two after i got that fixed but then slowly rised to nine into jan, thats when i re-did my ignition, went down to one, then two for a long time, and jus this week went up to 4 tries.

The car has been smoking on a cold start since i bought the car.

well i used a steel wool to get all the stuff off the plugs. All clean now.

rotor/cap was completly carbon tracked, what could be cuasing this? I think i am still running rich. Could that cuase it?

the motor seems to idle better when i unplug the IAC to check the timing, i did notice that before i say your replies.

one thing, there is a strange clicking/screting noise (hard to explain) coming off the plenum from under neath somehere. Maybe injectors?

ECM??? i hope not!!!!! just thinking about it, i can come up with four letter words.

Checked my spark, its purple!!! shouldn't it be blue?

could the 7mm wires messing with the aftermarket coil, cuase i remember wayne saying that 7mm could do something bad.

did i mention i changed the feul filter, should i change it again, just for luck, it isn't that expensive, and easy to do.

its only a cold start that i am haveing trouble with (the engine is cold, but the hotter it is outside, the worse it gets, which leaves me to belive its ignition problems)

i got the rotor with the steel wool too, it was completly carbon tracked, the cap was good, though the brass on the tips wear off and is silver where the rotor would touch it.

think i got everything, let me know iff i forgot anything.

Could somebody answer any of those questions please?

one thing, i just read TomP saying to put it in "On" and wait till the fuel pump stops before starting the car. I usually start cranking, if it dont start, then wait for the pump to stop before i try again. I will try this out and see how that helps.

what would cuase pinging?

i have been running 89/93 for eight months. I was running 87, but was pinging, so i switched to 89 and it stopped.

I have been anally compulsive and added fuel Injector cleaner every other fill up. I often add Octane booster too!

Vacuum pressure is great!

Just did this yesterday, for a few minutes.

Didn't happed today, though.
