ASP Pulley

I have a quick question for all the fellow F-Body owners out there. First of all, I have a 91 RS equipped with 3.1 L of pure speed and extacy. I am planning on ordering the ASP pulley next week. I was wondering a few things. First, I have noticed that some v6 owners said they have needed more than one...how many would I need? Secondly, has anyone installed these and would you have any advice. Also, what is the main difference between the 25% crank pulley and the 25%crank/23% alternator pulley. I'm trying to get some extra HP to keep up in 0-60 times as well as get some more performance out of my hypertech chip. Thanks.

well first off just getthe crank pully. unless you have a high amp alt, yu will run into charging probs eventually.

Second, you got a hypertech huh?.. waste of money. does virtually nothing. If you compare the bin for stock and Hyper, you'd see. You should spent $$ on getting chip burning equip. chould had an endless supply of chips that actually DO saomething.

Yeah, thanks for the advice on the lack of use for the hypertech chip and the crank pulley. I've had the chip for sometime now. I got it when I was young, naive, and stupid . Oh well, no use crying over spilt milk... Any advice on install?

Nothing to it, simple 4 bolts. Break them loose with the belt still on the crank, it'll probly be a little easier. Not sure on the size but bet they are 10/13 MM.

This is where I get confused.... If the aftermarket pulley wheel for the alt is smaller then the stock one... wouldn't you be charging it more since the rotations would be faster...? These pulley things always confuse me......

All I know is people that put on the Alt pully always seem to run into charging probs, I actually think the Alt pully is LARGER then stock to free up RPM's? I may be wrong, but just about everyone I know that has put on the Alt pully had either taken it off, of went high output alt to compensate.

Yeah am almost positive the set I helped a guy in VA put on the crank and Water pump were smaller, for less drag/ rotation force needed, and the Alt was larger.

But yes if it WERE smaller then stock yes it would spin faster, but that would also create more drag, loosing power, so I really doubt its actually smaller.

ASP pulleys can be bought through Summit but you can't find the part#'s in the catalog. So here they are:

ASP541800 - This # is for the 25% underdrive crank pully only.

ASP541801 - This # is for the crank & Alt. pulleys. This set will raise the full charge rpm to 1100, so be careful.

Im using the crank and alt set, but I have a high output altenator that be going into the car with it.

Both part #'s will fit all camaro 2.8, 3.1, & 3.4 engines from what I've be told. Again, this is what I've been told but I am not positive.

P.s. My Hypertech Chip made a "NOTICABLE" difference in my car. I put in a new GM crate motor 2 yrs ago and the chip went in after 8,000 miles. I used a 180* thermostat with it. If I recall though, I think Hypertech offers two different levels of chips. I can't always remember which of my cars has what. Hard to keep straight what I've done to the street cars, I don't touch them as often as the race car.

Haven't been around lately 'cause works been nutty, so this post may be alittle late. I have had the ASP pulleys for 2.5 years now, and bought the two pulley set. The crank pulley is much smaller, and YES the alt pulley is larger than stock. I have had both on the car for 2.5 years on a new stock alternator and new battery and never had a single charging problem. Yes, healights dim a bit at night when at idel, but no performance or everyday problems at all. Thats just my experience with them, never had a problem. I even at one point had a mechanic check my charging system with them on (i was haveing hesitation probs) and he said my charging system checked out great! The hesitation was in the spark plugs. Just giving you my .02
