GUT CONVERTER or NOT???

I have the 3.1 v6 and I dont have enough money to get a highflow converter, so i was thinking about gutting my cat or even installing a straight pipe until i get one. Question is will i lose too much backpressure by gutting my cat or will it be ok. I know some backpressure is good but i was wondering if any body else had a gutted cat or straight pipe and noticwe any performance difference. Better or worse performance????.... also will the sound change any???

I would just wait until you can afford a high flow cat . Unless your cat is clogged and you have to do something . I gutted mine because at the time I had just put a new motor in my car ! You wont notice really any difference in it being gutted if any . I think cats are made so well today , most of them are high flow . But the converters that you see in summit or other ones that companys make I think are a little higher flow than our stock ones ! ...But for right now unless your cat is clogged Id just leave it alone . Plus you need to think about emissions , does your state have emissions ? If so you wont pass with a gutted cat .

I had a gutted cat when I bought the car; didn't know it until I was putting my high-flow cat on. Didn't notice any difference. This is the 3rd time you're posting this... you can always just "reply" to your old messages. That way we get all the information on a cat and horsepower in one message, ya know? It makes things flow easier. I was about to retype something that I had already typed to you in this message... click it to read it again: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=116649

the only reason to gut it is so it still looks stock. for inspections and garage repairs. I know most muffler shops will not touch a car unless you have a cat in place.

where I live it is no big deal so I just removed it. and these newer straight pipe cats are a butt load better at flow than the 70s eARLY 80S cat that had the beeds inside.

I took the CAT off my 2.8 and noticed zero difference in performance.
