F-body 3.4 into FWD?
A member on aother board I visit is thinking of swapping a 3.4 from his Camaro into a Cavalier that currently has a 2.8 mpfi.
Any ideas if this swap is possible and how difficult?

The same difficulties we would face putting a FWD in an F-body are going to be faced by this guy See this thread...

Why?
He can get so many car choices for 3.4 & can stick in a DOCH 3.4 set up easy, too!
HEY, tell him he made a bad choice but you'll help make it easier by buying his 3.4 CHEAP!!!!!

I am the one doing the swap. This is a long term project. I am putting a lt1 with a lt4 heads and intake. So I have an extreamly strong 3.4. It has an auto behind it and it pulls hard on same camaros 3.4 with manuals mustangs and any other car in its class. So I would have to be stupid to sell the motor like you guys are trying to say. I am doing this project to be different I have seen it done once before on a webpage. I am not planning on this being a direct swap or an overnight project I am tearing the whole front end along with all the suspension apart and possibily fabricating the whole setup to work at my shop. Its not that big of a deal if you are going to go through everything and do it right just to have something different. I have been through the same thing on an s-10 I put a 454 in it. I had to fab up a whole new front and and rear frame to handle the twist I get from it. Not to be a ***** or anything I would appreciate if you guys wouldnt jump to conclusions and tell me it is a bad idea and to sell an awsome motor cheap. To anyone that I offened sorry.

Nevermind... I think I know what's going on now. Your putting the LT1 with LT4 heads into your Camaro and the current 3.4 into a Cavalier. Is this Right? Good luck with it
yes i have a 94 camaro with a 3.4 v-6 I am pulling the motor and putting a lt1 in it. With the lt4 conversion kit and possibily a supercharger. Since the 3.4 pulls hard in that car for a v-6 and my girlfriend has a 89 z24 (my girlfriends hot rod I guess I would call it) I was going to put that motor in it. Just to be different I have to tear the whole thing apart anyways because I have to do a bunch of body work and paint. I figured that car would be really fast with that motor just because it weighs a lot less than that camaro and since I will have that motor to spare. Sorry about that response up there it just irritates me when other people tell me that its a waste of time and try to buy it off me and screw me over when its a good motor. Like i said something about that motor that it pulls harder than all the other v-6's like it that are relatively stock. The motor is completly stock other than a K&N filter and flowmaster exhaust.
maybe get a different bell housing or maybe I can make somthing to have it mount on the other side and have a oil filter relocation kit for the swap or something. I havent even gotten that far I am not going to do anything until I finish my lt1 project, just kicking around the idea, maybe I wont even mess with a 3.4 and build the 2.8. I really dont like v-6 no offense but they sound like crap when you get on them not as bad as a four cylinder but sure doesnt sound like a v8. But I might decide to when I have the front clip off doing body work. I have seen it done before the the exact same far and I have the facilities to do it, its just a question of motovation. I have bigger priorities right now, I have a fourth and a second gen camaro I am looking for a first then a third to have one of each gen. I guess its a matter of how bad my girlfriend wants the motor
now that I've gone the ways of FWD and W-Bodies.
I'd sell the 3.4 and either find a 3100 or a 3400.
if you get the 3100, get a upper intake from a 3400, they flow better, i'd do a homemade port and polish of intake parts to reduce throttle lag.
the TDOHC will eat up the 3 speed in your cavalier (unless they actually got a 4T60-E by '94. then you'd be ok)
I'd assume so since the 3.1 went 3100 in '94 and got much better, that a 3100 was availiable in the '94 cavvies.
even with a TDOHC, you'll have problems fitting it in your engine bay, since the 3100 filled it up, and it didn't have 4 cams.
motor mounts would also be a problem wince last time I checked the RWD cars didn't have dogbones, and the rest of the FWD'ers have them a bit higher, since after all the cavvy is a little car.
check out j-body.org
and my home clubgp.com, and find Vegeta (Ben) on the 88-96 (1st Gen) W-body board. he runs http://www.60degreev6.com/
he can give you plenty of reasons why
1. this is a waste
2. a similar swap can be done much cheaper and easier with better results
3. he'll even give you details like why you can't reverse your intake to get it to face the "correct" way.
this is dumb.
why did I just waste my time?

First of all what are you talking about a three speed? Its a manual five speed, second the 3.4 is not very much different in size compared to my 2.8, and third no matter how much I seem to say it, it cant sink into anyones head, Its a custom project not some hack together thing. I know its just not going to drop in I will have to make custom motor mounts, possibily a whole new front subframe. If its what I want to do so be it I thought these forums are for help people not shoot their ideas down, but oh well you guys well a select few in here know everything thats why you are sitting in the V6 camaro forums, you know v-6 camaros are supposed to be for chicks who want a sports cars or gas millage not performance but you guys know it all. I have wasted enough of my time visiting this forum you can post your reply about how dumb I am or an *** I am but I wont see it heres some advice
KED85 After hanging here today,
I wonder why myself.
Yet everyone has a differet boat to float.
"let them eat cake".
you should take it I am sure things you guys do like v-6 camaros are stupid to allot of people but they probabily dont give you a hard time its what you want to do

and considering that the trans is on that other side...............makes this damn near impossible
