Gas smell and engine light?

Everytime I am driving my car, I keep smelling an odor of gas. I don't have leaky fuel lines, my gas cap is on and I replaced the fuel filter and it's tight. My engine light has been coming on as well. I don't feel any lack of performance though. I haven't grounded it and checked the code yet, but any guesses on what it could be?

I have an 88 2.8 V6. I filled the tank and got approx. 220 miles out of a full tank. Not sure if this is good gas mileage or not. Thanks for any insight! EGR?

Might be you Cat.

Run a Code check, and see why your SES light is coming on...

Yep, gotta get the code. I keep a small piece of wire in my glove compartment so I can check it whenever (like in a parking lot).

This beats a wire.....
I got a MAC Tools CodeCard that has two steel prongs that connect and are attached to a plastic card that has a code list on the back and instructions on the front, it's really cool. It's also wallet sized!!!! I don't know if they still make them, my buddy was cleaning out is toolbox(pro wrench) and gave it to me free, If you'd like I'll copy it and you'll have a code list to keep in your wallet.

I think it's the charcoal canister filter.
