Is it worth it?

Ok, my brother's friend is selling his 1984 Camaro Sports Coupe. It's white, he says it's got 106,000 on it, but I find that hard to believe, cause I had an 86 Celebrity with 268,000 on it, and the gauge does not have a 100,000 mark on it. It's a carbed 2.8 auto, seems to idle fine, but hesitates sometimes when you hit the gas. The car's interior is beat to hell (headliner sagging, ripped seats, dirty). New rear tires and radiator. The hesitation problem could be something really small or really big, but I'm just guessing it's cause he doesn't know **** about keeping his cars clean. The front passenger tire also rubs against something when you make a sharper turn. Not much rust except for the bottom of the doors. He wants $800, but no one wants it and he needs to get rid of it soon, so I think I'm gonna offer him $500 cash, take it or leave it. I have a 90 Dodge Shadow now and I really think it's time to move on up from the 4 cylinder world. Think it's worth the $500, plus the extra grand I'll have after I sell my other car, should I offer him less and see what he says, or should I ditch the whole idea together. And how reliable are the 2.8's from this year. I don't mind fixing, replacing, sanding, scraping, patching, etc. if it's worth the investment. An 8 cyl. is out of the question though, cause of insurance and gas. Think I should go for it?

500 seems fair. It may be even worth 600. Depends on how bad you want it, and how close a nicer car for the same is. Its all on what you want, and how bad the car really is. People have paid alot more, and some a lot less. It all depends on the availbiltiy of parts, and cars in the area.

I would try to get an FI car myself. But the Carb seems to be a good engine too.

hmmm rust on doors... investigate the car more thouroughly - chances are there might be more- the rubbing is no big deal- hesitatio could be - plugs-wires or cap- offer the 500 but hold on to the dogde for a few weeks just incase the car doesnt aclimate itself to your driving habits- ( break down)
