junkyard find!!! what can i use?
Well, i went to the junk yard, and asked the lady if there were any firebirds on her lot, she said that she had a new GTA just brought in, but what i needed was the interior, and this beautiful black GTA's interior was stripped the first day, apparently the guy bought everything, engine and tranny were the same story, etc, etc. But the paint was beautiful on te all the panels, i checked the g/fx and one side looks great, the otther is bent up pretty bad. So, she tells me of another one in the bakc, red one , 1990, go look at it, and everything's torn up and missing also, and without t-tops what wasn't missing was already destroyed by sun, rain, hail, snow, etc. lol. So on the walk back, i see this nice little T/A spoiler sitting out of the bushes, walk over and what do i see, this black 1985 Pontiac Firebird T/A. It has this shoe polish all over the back hatch with these two little baloons drawn on both sides, and words in the middle "I'm 17 and hilariou" sucked that they proably wrecked their car the same day. WEll, the damage was all front end, crushed the nose, bent the front fenders butthat's it, everything back of that is perfect, or near so. And the best thing, the car was a hardtop, so all the pieces inside were still looking beautiful. I was able to grab and automatic shifter plate for 15 bux that's in cherry mint condition. But the best stuff on this find is to follow, after looking under the hood i noticed that this 85 firebird was equipped with a 305 Tuned Port Injected v8, 100% complete minus a throttle body, transmission (700r4) was still in tact and in the car, then the best news, i open up the center console and see the RPO sticker sitting right there, and half way down are those beuatiful letters WS6, so, what special stuff could i grab off this WS6 car for my swap, minus the engine tranny combo, lol, not up for another swap right now. thanx in advance.

Sway bars and steering box. Don't forget to check IROC's for a wonderbar. I just put 36/24mm sways and wonderbra on my car, man what a difference.
Although I'm sure the new bushings helped a lot too.

Check the rear end for a limited slip differential tag, because you may want the whole rear end. It may also be a disc brake car. you can look up the axle ratio and see if it would work for you. If it is a disc brake car, then you will need to get the Master Cylinder and the proportioning valve as well. Swap all the pieces and have a 4 wheel disc brake car. Many people have done this including me.
grab the rims if there the same as your car , cus I garantee you if your in a hurry one day , like I get sometimes , you'll pull in a parking spot and fu(k your rims up like i have before!
atleast get two rims

Yeah, search for 3.73/posi/disc by TomP and you'll find all my swap messages. Don't forget about the $40 82-92 rear disc brake recall kit from gmpartsdirect.com to make those rear discs work!! You might want to think about getting the injectors, too.
I wonder if that car could've had a 3.73/posi/disc. '85 was the last year for 3.73's under an f-body. Look for the axle code on the RPO sheet!!!!! Axle codes start with G. Can't remember any right now... I think GU6 is our V6 axle, 3.42/open. Uh, wait... isn't GT4 = 3.73/posi? Shoot, can't remember. Check those G codes!!
Oh and the prop valve is the main piece. The master cylinder doesn't have to be swapped. Do a search, on the suspension/chassis/brakes forum, for "master cylinder" by "apeiron". He found a TSB from GM that confirms that using the J50 (drum/disc) is okay on a J65 (4 wheel disc) system.
