Smog Canister - How important?

I have a filter sitting as deep into the fender as possible, and I'm wondering what if I took off the canister since I just passed smog and have a while... will this have any adverse effects on any sensors or what not?

Honestly, I'd leave it on. It handles the gas fumes from your gas tank, and doesn't cost any HP. You could move it around the engine bay though, as long as it's not cooking on the exhaust, or laying down sideways/upside down (the fumes sink into the charcoal).

Here's an idea, borrowed from the import crowd... what about trying to hide it inside a fenderwell? I'm considering relocating my windsheild washer bottle and coolant bottle to inside the fenders.

You know - I wasnt worried about how it looks Tom. So if it aint gonna free up 1 or 2 horses by taking it off, ill just leave it to its job =)

Why not make it a flame thrower or somethin have a spark arrestor ignite the hose that the gas fumes come out of and shoot flames out the back of your car or make it so u can aim it at idot drivers.
