Those of you with a Accel super coil

Are you guys runing the stock MM wires or 8mm wires?

I have the stock type AC Delcos and I do not think they can handle the coil but I could be wrong. accel super coil, blue streak cap and rotor, autolite plugs, ac delco wires.

I just don't want to have to spend 80 bucks if I don't have to.
Just trying to work out all the little problems in the car.

I dunno about whether or not you need the bigger wires, but accel superstock 8mm wires for our cars are only $23.95 through summit.

Larger plug wires just mean more insulation from heat. The first thing to fail on wires is the boot (part that clips to the sparkplugs). To help wires last longer, pick up some braided boot insulators. I've had the same set of taylor wires on this car for 8 years and they still have perfect flow, I check there resistence every time I change the plugs. Yes I do have a hotter ignition system also.

I have run stock 7mm wires with accel before and it worked fine. But if you do flip for some new wires get the 8.8 Kems. I perfer them over accel wires.

One wire has a burn mark on it from the exhaust manifold and when the engine gets hot the car misses a bit and when I looked in the Haynes manual about a few problems it pointed to plugs and wires. I know the plugs are bad so I many just get the wires from summit since the delcos where at least 20.

Er, thicker plug wires also keep the spark "inside" better. The thicker insulation keeps the spark from arcing out to the engine block, or some other ground. When you install your new wires, try your best not to get any grease on them. Oil/grease sinks into the plug wire insulation, and can cause spark leaks.

I wouldn't run a stronger coil on anything less than an 8mm wire. Like Joe said, you can get the Accel's, or there's other plug wires out there that aren't $80. You're thinking of the MSD wire prices.

Payed 39.95 for some accell "universal" kit wires that had 8+coil wire. Thats all they had on shelf that would work, and I have 2 extra wires case one gets fubared.
