Watching Tv and ...
I was watching the weather channel just then . Isidore (Hurricane) looks as if it will come right up through Louisiana . Now , I live a block from a river . I have never flooded , but houses in my neighborhood have . Im concerned about all this rain and the rising river . I would like to get my car atleast 2 feet off the ground . I've heard of people using cinder blocks , but I know they can break . What do you guys suggest ? Thanx .

2 feet would be hard, and still have stability. I would be affraid with stands, the wind would blow them over. I would think the red tire ramps, on all 4 tires. Wont be 2 feet though
Any shopping centers above ground parking lots you can hide out in?
That or on back of flatbed tow truck
I thought you were upset about the latest Chevrolet ads for the 2003 models.
No Camaros mentioned anymore.

I lived at Venice Pier, Marina Del Rey, California during the first El Nino (1982-1983).
The one that destroyed Santa Monica Pier, Redondo Pier, Hermosa Pier, Malibu Pier, Ventura Pier.
I woke up seeing the Pacific Ocean at my doorstep for two weeks. And I was INLAND, NOT on the Ocean side!
I parked my 1968 Firebird 400/400 at a highpoint street.
I feel for ya.
What about a garage in town?
Or just store it elsewhere further in land.

I just found out , its going to be bad . The predictions have it hitting lake charles thurs or fri . That means we are on the WORSE side of it . The tornado side .and very high wind side .
Are you staying in town for the hurricane or are you leaving? My family and I stayed at home in Charelston for Hurricane Hugo in '89 (same year as my car was made!). I was only five, so it scared the **** out of me! But I've been around for a few more, and I actually enjoy them.
Like they said, Don't use jackstands, especially if you'r going for 2 feet up. Just find someone who lives near you that has a flat trailer and pay them a few $$ if theyre not using it to keep your car on.

go find a firewood place, at "old man dan's" use monster logs to hold cars up in the air. safer than jack stands and ramps.
36+ in dia. and as high as you want.
use some like radio strap and strap them too the car. and tie it of so she dont float away.
I can see your car now, bobbing up n down in the carport. Also I would plug off your tail pipes.
the logs work great for working on the car anyways.
talk about tv, you guys see that dirt track car , his tire comes off the rim, rolls next to him for about 4-5 feet then it jumps back on the rim.
it was sweet

Might want to think about sealing up the doors somehow, too. Remember if you get your car underwater, you need to drain that motor before you try to crank the engine. Remove the spark plugs, remove the spark coil wire, and then turn the crank clockwise using a breaker bar & socket on the center crank bolt. This will push all the water out of the cylinders, thru the spark plug holes... don't want to hydrolock your motor.
Good luck down there!! If I were you I'd be hopping in the car and driving far far away... somewhere dry... be safe!

Thanx guys for all the help !
There is no where around here to get big logs .lol . I think im just ganna put the car up on some ramps if I have to . Im ganna wait a little bit to see what they say . I know everyone is not ganna rush to advance to buy wheel ramps ..heh . We may not get enough water to flood , but Im just being safe .What scares me though , is being a block from a river added together with tremendous amounts of rain .I will be staying here in Baton Rouge to ride it out because we will only have 80 mile an hour winds or so .I heard on the way home from school alot of the hotels are booked around here from people coming from New Orleans .Thats where it will flood like BAD because of Lake ponchatrain - if you look on a US map , the big lake in the toe part of the LA boot is lake ponchatrain .Its a shallow lake with alot of water that will almost all splash out and fill up New Orleans . (this is what experts predict )Im about an hour and 30 min from New Orleans. Will keep you guys updated .

Its wobbling around out there .This thing is wobbling like a girls *** at school walking on campus !
They said earlier it looks as if Biloxi Ms will get the blunt force of it . We will still get wind and rain however . The good thing is , Its NOT strenghthing !!! It has been raining moderatly sence 5;00 in the afternoon yesterday . Im suppose to be in class right now , but I leave in the morning rush hour , I decided not to go to my morning class because people drive like a bunch of morons in the rain down here . Some of the idiots even speed up !
Classes may even be cancelled though ... Last edited by WaynesRS; Sep 25, 2002 at 08:26 AM.
You're so lucky with so much warning.
I mean
We don't have warnings for earthquakes.
Some fires are about the same way, too.
Imagine if we knew exactly where & when an earthquake would hit?
Head for the HILLS?!

I'd hope they cancel classes. Universities are usually stupid like that... everything else will be closed, the news says "we advise nobody to travel unnecessarily", but classes are still going!
Hey did you actually put the car up on something? Is that what you were talking about by it wobbling around?
