3500 is WAY too high. You should be able to cruise at 70 in 4th gear around 2200 rpm.

Your idle is high also. Are you having any driveability problems? SES light on? Any vacuum leaks? TCC working? 4th gear working?

You may have a bad vaccuum leak. I have a 92 3.1 liter as well, and it normally idles at about 700 RPM when it is warm, 1300 when it is cold. It could be that the car isn't sensing that it has warmed up, and it is keeping the idle high. Also, the TCC will not lock up until the engine gets warm.

Your tach could also be screwed up. According to my calculator, with a 25 inch tire, you should be turning 2125 RPM in overdrive with the TCC locked, or about 3000 RPM in drive with the TCC locked. At that RPM, there is no way that the trans will slip 500 RPM, unless the tranny is toast! Unless you can hear that the engine is turning that high an RPM, i would be inclined to disbelieve the tach.

Hope you get it fixed... If it is actually turning 3500 RPM, the gas mileage must really suck!

Thanks for the replies, ill check for a vaccum leak. also, i can't go 70 in 4th, i have to be in 5th or it will red line, i can deff hear that the engine is pushing at those RPMs, i have a whopping top speed of 90mph in 5th gear. My fan does not activate untill the needle hits the red on the temperature gauge.

You deffinetly have a problem. You should be able to go way faster for a top speed.

Chek all of the usale suspects, Plugs / wire, cap rotor, coil, vaccum leaks, timing, etc.

I have 3.1L and push 4th 95MPH and still have a small amount rpm left.
