Well you really don't gain horsepower.

What happens when you remove the AC is lessen the weight (you knew that) and get more horsepower to the wheels due to less friction and "parasitic loss" that the AC compressor took away from the motor.

Hard to say w/out a dyno... my guess would be no more than 10 max.

75-78pds? that's stretching it. a lot. the compressor off my 77 T/A weighed maybe 30-35lbs. but to get the full effect, remove every part of the A/C. Ask TomP, he has like 50 billion pages on this.

Yeah the compressor isn't that heavy... 30-35 pounds is probably about right. The condensor in front of the radiator (cause when you look at the car from under the front, you're not seeing the radiator, you see the condensor!) is only a couple pounds, as is the silver accumulator can & the evaporator (connected to the accumulator, inside the heater/evaporator box on the firewall). Removing it does give some more room to work on the motor, though.

I removed mine for two reasons, 1, I never used it, I prefer to drive around in summer with the windows down & the radio up. And 2, when I totalled the car, the evaporator got mashed (heater/evap box shattered, too). I could bend the condensor back, bent all the hard lines back, but that evaporator was like a solid chunk of steel. So no big upset for me when I just dumped the whole system onto the grass.

Only times I wish I still had it back is when I'm dressed up for something, wearing a shirt & tie & suit in 90 degree weather... my anti-perspirant never holds up!
