If i buy a 3.8L V6 from a 95-2002 f-body, do i need a different tranny? I have the 4L60 / 700R4 transmission.

hey there! how are ya?
well to answer your question, i tried to get one myself
but i got the 3.4 instead
if you get a 3.8
its like doing a v8 conversion
you need practically everything new or different.
for that you just get a V8
so if you have a 2.8, or 3.1 get a 3.4 if ya want to stay to v6
it cost less and you don't have to change anything but the block itself. unless you try to keep then 3.4 manifold that makes everything different once again.
so my advice is go v8 if you want a 3.8
unless you have a 3.8l turbo conversion
where it is more worth it.
but i doubt you can find one of those being that you cant jsut drop a grand national engine straight into the engine compartment.
I chose 3.4 cuz i want a quick v6
i have something to prove so i stayed v6

3.8 is a 90 degree engine, and the thirdgen v6s are 60 degree, it is a whole different ball game

well hope i helped ya

yeah....i knew about the 3.4 conversion....which now makes me regret that my mom gave my bro's wrecked 94 camaro 3.4 to one of my neighbors.....I could have had a 3.4L block for free I might ask my neighbor if i can have the engine and maybe tranny if he swaps a V8 into it

well, I understand that you don't have to change your dash gauges or radiator...or your springs.

I am not sure about that. the 3.8l is heavier than the 2.8l, well, you could be right. I wouldn't change the springs since the heavier engine will lower the front just a tad.

its possible to keep the springs
i heard cases where people leave their v6 springs for a v8 conversion
so it's possible
i just don't advice having a full house in your car
i can't take that luxary for instance because i haul a lot of people around.

but you need computer, tranny, i think you have to work on fuel system, pretty much the engine is a completely different build
