Hesitation?
I'm new here, so if this is in the wrong forum or somthing please forgive me. Its just that I recently got a 91 camaro with a v6 3.1L, and its been giving a bit of trouble. After ive been driving for more than about seven minutes, it seems to make an odd noise, as if the engine is missing a beat or somthing. Don't really know how to describe it, almost as if the engine was running out of gas, but not quite. THis car has a remote start in it, and when I first got it, it would stall on me when i first started it and began to drive, not only would it stall, but the brake would lock so I had to use the e-brake to stop. Shutting off the remote start solved this problem.
My thinking is that perhaps the remote start, although switched off, is still in some way affecting the car. Or that for some reason it isn't getting enough fuel, possibly the filter or pump. I have doubts in that however because, it only happens after driving a few minutes, and will just randomly go away after I accelerate, or the car shifts. The RPS when it does this go up and down, somtimes by as much as 500, but this cannot be felt in the way the car is driving. Possibly that is just somthing bad with the tach? When it was dieing with the remote start however, it sounded the same way that it does when it does this, just to a much greater extent. I"m pretty sure it has nothing to do with the tranny because it still idles rough when in nuetral or park after it has started doing this. Altough, the trans fluid needs a changine, although I douibt that woudl do this? The plugs and wires were done almost 2 years and 3,000 miles ago (previous owner didn't use it much). My best uneducated guess, is it has somthing to do with fuel delivery. Super, regular, bad gas, good gas, full tank, empty tank makes no differance. FOrgot to mention, when it does this, I really have to hit the gas to get any kind of acceleration. Any ideas would be great. Thank you for looking at this.

One more thing, the AC compressor seems to randomly turn itself on at times. I know it does this when the car is idling, I don't know if it does this at speed. Could this cause that great of a loss in preformance. Smells of gas at the back of the car too, I don't think it is from the exhause though, almost like comming from the gas cap. Tons of pressure in teh tank too, when you take that cap off.

Check the cap and rotor, those might be a little corroded too. Could be a clogged fuel filter..does it have a tendency to stall when you're slowing down or braking hard? Sounds like it's not getting fuel, although it could be getting bad spark too. A/C compressor, it should only turn on when you've got your A/C running or like, your defroster, maybe your heater I'm not sure.. Yours does what mine does..nasty noise, horrible performance. The compressor clutch is probably shot..could use some oil. They make cans of 134a refridgerant with oil in it (assuming the car has been converted, which for your sake I hope it has been) ..have the local shop put it in, I dont think it's recommended as a do it yourself thing although you can with the right hose and valves and a buddy...just make friends with one of them so they don't charge you an ungodly price for a 5 minute or less job. And the tank pressure I think is normal..my cap isn't really vented either. On a big tank of gas, it POURS out fumes..
