Do you mean balancing the crankshaft? I believe our crankshafts are internally balanced, so as far as a harmonic balancer, we just need a neutrally balanced one. But don't quote me on that..I'm no engine tech.

is it just a re-ring? or are you installing new hard parts?
just a re-ring, you should be ok
new hard parts, balancing is advised

Yep, harmonic balancers were all neutral balanced from 82-92 (and probably 93-up, as well). But 82-86 2.8's are externally balanced, on the flywheel. Makes things kind of a bitch, especially if you're trying to change an 82-86 flywheel. But 87 started the year for the DIS-equipped Gen II motors, so a center counterweight was added (with notches for DIS), which allowed the 2.8's to be internally balanced. The Gen I motors, starting in '87, used the same crank as the Gen II's, even though the notches on the counterweighta ren't used for DIS.
