Tech questions
1. On the cam position sensor on the 3.4. When you use the 2.8 intake and computer you do not use this at all right? If I did not use this I could use bigger cams (I love not living in an emmisions state
)
2. I was just talking to a guy who is droping out of Aircraft maintenace and going automotive. He just gave away a 2.8 86 camaro with 160k miles. He said when he went to take off the lower intake manifold that he needed a special tool. Is this true? Last time I lloked at it, it did look like a pain.
3. How many CFM does the Dynomax catback flow?
Right now I am looking at going with the Hooker since from what I have heard it flows more than any muffler.
4. For those that have done a full port and polish in the MPI 2.8 intake how many more ponies did you get?
Thanks
David

A special tool? Odd. I don't recall using any special tool for the '86 that I changed the head gaskets on, and swapped into an '89 Camaro... http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen
The Dynomax catback #17493 is meant for a 305 (5.0L) v8. Luckily our V6's share the same exhaust routing, that's why we can use #17493 on our cars. So since the exhaust flows enough for 5 liters, it should do fine for 3.4 liters.

No special tools are needed. Unles you count the tire iron (or similar tool) used to pry out the injectors/fuel rail

Tom, I have yet to decide on an exhaust, I know the Hooker flows the most and I could just have a pipe bent for it and have them weld in the cutout (speed shop or something) but the dynomax cost tempts me also.
I had a buddy plug in my specs on the computer HP/ quarter mile estimater. With the 3.4 stuff it was saying mid 14's
, that is if this motor will be making over 200rwhp, I know it will, LOL, heads alone will be giving me 50.I would also really really like a new y-pipe.
EDIT: "Looked at the link"TOM!!!!!!!!!, DUDE!!! I want a hot chick to help me swap my motor TO!!!!!

WOW, something must be wrong w/my fuel rail. I don't need a tire iron to remove it. I just grab it in the back and pull up. They all just pop right out. That's ok though, my car will explode eventually, i just know it. I would be just my luck too.

#1- leave it alone.
IF it don't leak, do not touch.
My two 3.4 swaps never changed cam.
Ran the low milage mills as is.
Beat a new BMW 5 series, other day, with family in Firebird.
Idiot thought he should be in my lane to turn, also.
Stupid fu ker.
Factory stuff works perfect.
Change cam, you blaze new territory.

If you are using the 2.8/3.1l ecm system, their are 3 sensors not needed. Just leave them in the hole so that you dont have to worry about leaks. Then yes you can change the cam.

LOL, had my MRS helping change engines in my s10. Somewhere I have a pic of her cleaning engine parts
She was the one who LITTERLY pulled on the engine hoist, and jacked it up to gank the old POS out.
Took alot of hunting, and a chic that wants a classic "gasp" mustang, I told her I wouldn't build it alone, your a$$ better learn how to get dirty too!!!

Dale, LOL, the last girl I was with (should have grown up some and then married her when I had the chance
) was all into fast cars and racing. She had to problem with me taking it to the track or making it faster, she even hemped LOL, I loved it!!!!!
A few more questions so I can see what desktop dyno says, anyone know where I can get this info or does anyone have answers?
86 Camaro (2.8)
Trans. gear ratios (700-R4)
Final drive ratio (is it 3.42 or do you also calculate the tranny ratio?)
Car Test weight (see () below and no power options)
% of weight on front wheels (3.4, A/C delete, no smog, no spare or jack)
Wheelbase
Coefficient of drag (car)
Overall height.
Overall width
Ground clearance (stock)

Well, I have 3 engine builders helping me out so I will not go crazy
, the heads I am getting (stock heads with a full port and polish and 1.8 valves) recomend a new cam, I am looking at a crane from summit (emmisions legal) and a non emmisions cam from crane, once I get answers from my questions I just posted I will plug each cam into the dyno program and see what I get, the second cam is not a race cam but a step down and Crane said it should work great but I need to wait on final flow bench numbers from the heads and exhaust stuff. I am also going to hold onto the 2.8 for a while incase something goes boom. I am thinking I may lay down in the 240rhwp range, but again I am waiting on dyno testing from the guys building the heads and cam dyno numbers so i could be way off in the positive or negative. Yep, you should have snatched that woman up really fast!!!
I'm turning the mrs daughter (had her before me) into a wrech head too. She comes out, grabs tools and attempts to turn also. Just gotta keep her away from battery!! I taught her how to use ratchet last time she helped. She just turned 3.
As for your new questions, sorry. I found the tranny info somewhere on the net a while back when I was looking into engine swap. So its out their, just gotta hunt.
As for size, wind drag, etc. I think some of the v8 guys could help on them.
My 3.4l shipped in crate was around 500-600 lbs "I think". that was with ac and all that bs too.
