Rear end questions

Ok I might be getting a rear end/panhard bar out of a 90 iroc, it has 3.73 gears vs. my 3.23 how will this effect my speedo and my speed that my car gives, and will the panhard bar bolt up to my car?

If the panhard rod is stock, then it's the same one you have on your car, don't even bother swapping them.

Did the guy put 3.73's in or did he claim they came from the factory? '85 was the last year for a factory 3.73 ...

I atcually went from 3.42's down to 3.23's and found that the car pulls much better in the powerband. 1st gear is so high in the 700r4 that the lower rearend made it more useable . It doesn't tack out as fast and over rev. 3rd gear is more useable on the freeway were before it would modulate between 3rd and fouth on a steep grade.

you know if I could do it cheap enough and in a few hrs I would love to just throw in a set of 4:10's

1 wheel peel would be fine with me.

all I got now.

wonder what cars or trucks came with 4:10 / 11s that would fit into out rear end. you know something that would cost about 100 bucks or less used.

I actually found out the same when I went from 3.42's to 3.73's... not only did I get off the line quicker (due to the 700r4's 3.06 'granny-low' 1st gear) but 4th gear became more useable on the highway. I could actually use 4th to accelerate, and even pass people much easier! (I also installed the B&M 4-3 kickdown kit way before I went to the 3.73's, so I was able to use 4th to accelerate before, but the 3.73's really woke the car up!) I cant wait to fix that blown posi and get that 3.73/posi/disc axle back under my car!

Just to let you know, 4th gen rearends are wider than 3rd gens.

If that is Penz Firebird in his signiture above--then I don't know what you guys are talking about him not having a panhard rod? You do know those car came stock with one? and that if he didn't have one in there the car would not be drivable-- it would not even sit properly just parked- He has to have one-look again.

Ditto that... Last january the panhard rod broke on my 85. Let's just say that I have new respect for the term "body roll"
