Injectors Out - couple of questions

Injectors Out - couple of questions

I have removed the injectors form my 92' camaro rs. It has the 3.1L V-6 with 35,000 miles. I need to know where the fuel filter is and how to change it, Chiltons was not helpful in this. Also I have some carbon built up on the inside of the plenium. Should I clean it off? Any other maintence items I should do while I have the plenium off and the injectors out?

Not sure if your camaro is the same as my '91 bird, but my fuel filter is located under the car back by the drivers' side rear tire. Should be a metal cannister about 6" long connected to metal lines (fuel) on both ends.

Fuel filter is under car, passenger side, right infront of the axle.

Forgot what size wrenches is needed, sorry

Two ways to relive fuel pressure if currently has some on it...

unplug fuel pump replay, attempt to start car a few times, or start and let run tell it dies.

Hit that pressure relieft on fuel rail, but wont drain all fuel from lines like other way will.

Make sure gas cap is off, or it will create vacume and keep draining.


Carbon build up, will have, unless EXCESSIVE, dont worry.
Put new o-rings on injectors.
Change t-stat if needed, eisier with intake off.
TB bypass if you wish.
Check, inspect all vacume lines.

You'll spend a month cleaning all of that carbon off unless you've got something good to clean it with. I tried once, but I don't bother anymore. Good advice from Dale. Make sure to lubricate the o-rings before sliding them back into the manifold.

Holley throtle body cleaner works great. It will blast that black gunk away. it better to have it off and clean it but Ive cleaned mine a few times installed [kept spraying till the can was empty, or black stuff stoped comming out of the TB. The car will run funny for a min but thats about it.

last time when having problems like Dale i tore my engine apart and got a nuch of cheap kitchen brushes and cleaned the hell out of my intake.

Id like to coat the inside with something that wouldnt let the carbon build up. maybe powder coat it, inside and out, or use some of that sealer they use in the cooling system to keep crud from building up.

Just disable the EGR, that's where all the carbon is from. Lovely stuff, isn't it?

You can buy a new set of O-rings for the injectors, made by Standard, kit SK-9, about $10 at an auto parts store. Better to have new ones than reinstall old ones that have deteriorated and might cause vacuum leaks...

Ive done that and over all the car runs better with the EGR on, now I have not burnt a prom to remove it right either.
