Major V6 junkyard score!!!

Shannon (redraif) and I were checking out the Pull-A-Part on the northside of Atlanta yesterday (don't do that very often; they rarely have anything decent), and couldn't beleive what we found...V6 headers!!!!

They definitely weren't homemade, either...I have heard that somebody made 2.8 headers years ago, and this must be a set. They're going to require some work to get them back in shape; one tube had a stress crack in it, and they were welded directly to an awful homemade y-pipe with bubble gum welds and crimped tubing, but with a little effort I think I can fix them. Best of all...we paid just over $15, with tax !

No pics yet, but I'm sure Shannon will post some in a few days!

That was a great score! No as good as my last junkyard trip, where I proposed to my wife

Savannah doesn't seem to have any decent pull your owns here, if they do let you pull yourself, you find yourself having to wade through muck and broken glass to get to anything because if you don't get it immediately the next time you come by the car with the parts you wanted has two cars forklifted on top of it, the place doesn't give you much opportunity to pull stuff, they are more of a scrap metal place.

I may have to make the trip to Atlanta.

The Pull-A-Part on the southside (Henrico Rd/Moreland Avenue) is usually a lot better...the cars seem less stripped. Last time there we found a near complete 82 TA, and got the ground effects, steering column, PMD seats (in pretty good shape, too), and the powerdome/cowl hood...all for about $150. We got a bunch of other 85-90 TA ground effect pieces that day, too.

Yeah, usually when I get to Atlanta it's to go to Big Day out or some music event and we end up staying in Kennesaw where Kristy's (my wife and Camaro owner in the house) friend lives.

Best thing about PAP is that the ground is gravel and the cars are up off the ground in nice neat rows. You get print out of which row the style car you are looking for is on. The only ick is the actually car dirt and oil. We have been there in the rain many times and never stepped in mud and there are rarly even puddles. Even better is the fact they have wheel barrels (if they are not all being used)

That's a far cry form the time I found a 20 gallon tank for my S10 in my local swamp/yard. THe truck it was in had been rear ended, and had held a freezer of shrimp, which was rotting and stinking all over the cab where it had come thru the rear window.

The truck had no rims on it, I had to jack it up a little at a time and run about getting old wheels and tires to stuff under it on stage at a time until it was finally high enough to get the tank out. The truck had had an oil leak so it was covered in grease underneath, that coated with red Georgia clay. Once I got the tank unbolted it was at least 2/3 full of fuel!

Need I mention how muddy and covered with broken glass and old spark plugs the ground was?

Anyway it was a decent deal!
