My Crazy Acting '92 RS
My Crazy Acting '92 RS
I have a 1992 Camaro RS 3.4 (Auto)
Since the recent blizzard, my car has been running like garbage. I shoveled it out, and the fuel line was frozen. The fuel line "thawed" the car ran OK for a couple days, and then the problems started happening. The car has no cat conv by the way. I just got in from work, and the car has been sitting well over 24 hours. I tried to start it about 10 times, nothing. After that, i got it started and this disgusting smelling smoke started pouring out my exhaust. It doesn't smell like oil though. When I rev the engine, the car sounds like it's going to die, and I didn't even venture driving it. Any ideas?

Are you sure the fuel line froze up? Might be time to add some dry gas or something to the tank, if that much water's in there. Could be too that with the recent rains/flooding in NJ, you bought gas from a station whose storage tanks got water in them.
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? You could throw it on and check fuel pressure; that would tell you if the line thawed all the way.

All I know is that I was in Puerto Rico for a week on vacation and while I was gone we had the blizzard. The car was packed on ice. I shoveled it out, and it wouldn't start. A friend and I pushed the car off the snow, and about 2 hours later, it started up like a charm. I just figured it was the fuel line, because it seemed to be the most logical explaination. I'm not really positive though.
just went out there to start it... started up first try, sounds normal. drove it, and it drove like a dream... what in the world could cause it to be a dream one second, and a nightmare the next?!?! being 100 miles over on an oil change wouldnt do it, would it? (my engine has 72K [rebuilt at 62K]) sorry if i seem to be asking dumb questions, i'm not a car buff

Nah, that shouldn't have anything to do with it. If driven without a lead foot, today's oil can go thousands of miles past the recommended change..it's just not worth risking.

When you went on vacation, how much fuel was left in the tank? Was it close to empty? It kinda does sound like the line froze... how I don't know, but if there was a ton of water in the gas, and with a near-empty tank, more condensation might've built up in the tank, and maybe you had more water than gas? Weird.
Try asking on the main tech board... someone must've heard of this before.
