Just sold the V6
I sold my 88RS for $1800,it had 128,000 miles and ran great, needed some interior work, headliner, rip in seats, and cracked dash.It was my first car and I wanted to keep it but california smog says I can't put a 350 in it,and it would have been ton of work.Oh well more money to make the new IROC faster,I definatly recommend to kids(16,17 years old)start with a V6,V8 torque can get you in a lot of trouble. Is this a good price i got for it?Thanks

I think that is a good price. A 2.8l Thirdgen is one of the least valuable thirdgens of all. The least valuable would be an 82' with a 2.5l 4 banger with no options with 14 X 6 rims with 70 series tires.
I bet the GTA wheels on my ride now are almost worth as much as my car if I were to sell it, which is why I can't sell my car.

I think you got exactly what the car was worth, with 128k and the interior a little outta shape. Depending on the paint and wheels you could have gotten a little more. If you have just average paint and rims, i think the price was great. A new paint job, even a cheap one, and polished rims, no matter how inexpensive, with the exterior looking sharp adds a good deal of $$ to the car. so if your paint and rims are average, then good sell...

the paint was ok,kinda dull without wax on it,and the rims were in average shape for a 15 year old car, everything was original even the paint I believe,I had the car for 4 1/2 years,it was black and had the black RS rims, its amazing how many people would call it "knight rider" or come up and ask me is that a 350?A flowmaster muffler sure can fool a lot of people.

speaking of flowmaster...does a v-6 w/ exhaust really sound that good? i have a v-6 too and am not sure if i want to spend the $$ or not. does the v-6 still produce a 'throaty' sound when an exhaust is added like with the v-8's? also, if yours really sounds that good, do you remember what kind it is and what you got it for? thanks.....and yeah, with paint and wheels in good, but not standout condition, i think you did nice w/ the price

I don't think it sounds anywhere near as good as a V8,at idle and up to about 2000rpm's its troaty, but after that it sounds cheap and kinda hollow, but it is kinda fun to set off peoples car alarms
.Mine was a 80 series 3 chamber stock replacement,my V8 is opposite its somewhat soft at idle, but the more gas you give it the better it sounds.I wouldn't get it until you've heard it at all rpm's,because I loved it at idle, but hated it when I got over 2000rpm's.

A 2.8l is not even half the size of a 5.7l so you will not get a throaty sound like those engines. That throaty sound comes with that extra displacement, which our cars don't have.
You can achieve a sound close to it at idle, but once the rpm's increase, the sound of the V6 really comes into play.

Thanks,The 3rd brake light on top of the hatch is my 86IROC,the light on the V6 is in the spoiler on the back,I don't think you can see in these pics.I was thinking about switching the hatches,I like the light in the spoiler, because it looks like it belongs there, not like on top of the hatch.I've got some pics of the 2 cars together.hopefully soon I'll get them on here.
