you should. On engines that i know have spun bearings, they don't crank at all. I knew a guy that was really low on oil, went around a corner real hard and all of the oil in he pan shifted to the side. Killed his front main...engine wouldn't even turn. It should make some kind of noise that is really annoying at the very least. Hope this helps a little

I've driven a car w/spun bearings. The origonal engine on my old 77 T/A. drove it around the farm at my friends doing question marks in the field, more fun than donuts  . When we pulled the motor & disasembled, all the mains were scored & either the front or rear main had a big 'ol 4" sliver extending out from it
. When in doubt, drop the oilpan and gab that drop light.

Assume the worst & just find another runing mill and replace it.
IF the other guy said it's a bad mill and it's missing vacuum lines & such, ya think the previous owner was kind to that current motor?
Or transmisson?
Sounds like he bought a project car & treat as such.
It's dead.
Start from secure point or toss the project.
Hope ya didn't pay too much for it.
They did pay you to remove it, right?!
I'm almost finished in refining the installation of a 3.4 along with the rebuilt tranny in my Blazer.
Got it running and need refining for smog to make street legal.
I've spent about $2K on this project. I've had this Blazer since 1989, so I know it's history, suspension, etc. Can't buy a used vehicle with perfect supension, brakes, fresh cleaned rad, rebuilt distributor & carb, fresh rebuilt transmission, 50K mile larger engine & working AC for that cheap. I also need swap into the Blazer a used LOWER MILAGE rear axle I obtain for free. My original axle has 211,500 miles on it boy does it howl & clunk into gear! Away it goes!
Do some serious planning on this 1985. The vacuum system is a one year stand alone hose routing design. See Chiltons for information.
