Okay this is a carb'd V6 1984 bird.
I am going to replace ALL of the vacuum hoses in the thing, maybe even the EGR as it was throwing high NOx when I got it smogged. The question is, what size are the vacuum hoses? And what is the best way to check the EGR?


Also the large hoses on the Air cleaner, anyone know what size they are? Is no one knows what I am talking about I can post pictures.

I have a 84 and i just replaced all the vac lines i just bought 2 feet of 3/8 three feet of 7/16 and three feet of 1/4 inch vac line and went to town. to check the egr valve first make sure that you have vac to it then check to see of the diaphram moves by hand i do not know much about smog tests though as i (thank ***) have never had to deal with emissions testing. do you have a vac pump? u can also chek for a leak in the egr by spraying carb cleaner or wd-40 around the diaphram hope this helps

 

I have replaced all of my rubber vaccum lines with silicon ones. A bit pricey, but the silicon lasts much londer and has thicker walls. Those plastic ones are pesky, so I plan on trying to fabricat some metal tubing in place of them so I don't break them by just touching.


Did GM really think those awfully small and fragile plastic vaccum lines would last more than 5 years without being damaged.\


I can't tell you what size to get since I don't know what your emmissions setup looks like.

The vaccum lines should labeled. The smallest 5/32, 7/32, and so on.

 

Hank thanks I assume thats for the rubber hoses and not the plastic ones?

And yes devianb they SHOULD be, but there is alot..ALOT of grime under the hood, I can't make out anything on the hoses.

Yes I know I need to get the engine/bay washed, BUT I dont want to mess it up and end up with a car that wont run, I need this as my daily driver.

Unless someone knows of a great steam-wash place in sacramento?
