This is probably a stupid question but what is the best 1/4 mile time for a mostly stock 2.8 camaro with a 5 speed, anyone have experience

Well mostly stock, and stock, can make a fairly big difference. What have you done exactly? All I can say for now is somewhere between 16 and 17 seconds probably.

Um, no. AFAIK, I've got the fastest stock 2.8 - ran a 17.4. I've got the timeslips to prove it, too, only real modifications was teh TB coolant bypass. I haven't run since I straight piped the cat - I'm hoping to hit the track Wednesday for test and tune night.

Yeah but that's bone stock...he said he's mostly stock.. I had forgotten though how much of a difference there is between 2.8's and 3.1's with strip times. Wow.
i ripped a 16.58, but thats with tpi intake, msd 6a ignition, msd blaster 2 coil, accell 8.5mm wires, splitfire triple platinums, and dynomax turbo exhaust, al this only ended up running me about $550... i cant wait till i hear of a v6 breaking into the almighty 15's.

Can you post a timeslip? and is this 2.8 or 3.1?
just curious, because the only mods you've listed that will increase power are the intake and exhaust....

I G-Teched a 16.48 at 85 mph with a new Catco cat, the Dynomax Super Turbo catback, a K&N filter, Taylor 8mm, Rapidfires, and a new cap and rotor. It was an auto 3.1. I would consider that lightly modified...

Dang... and on those worn tires of yours?
16.48... Jesus. I've got to cut a full second off my time to get to the area of the 3.1.
Jesus.

and FWIW - have you guys ever looked at our V6 y-pipe? Somehow, I don't think that 'T' where it should be a 'Y' is helping things.

Heh yeah, they weren't THAT worn at that point though. I was on a really rough gravel surface so I managed to hook them somehow.
Like I said man, I can't believe the 2.8's and 3.1's are that far apart.
I also did a 0-60 with the G-Tech and did a best of 8.28 with an instant hook. With tirespin I managed in the area of 8.5. 16.48 was my best run, I did two others that were like 16.52 and 16.67.

With a surprise? Hmm...would this be a custom Y pipe or headers....
I don't have any timeslips to prove it, but I think that I can most reasonably claim to be running mid 15 second 1/4 mile times in my 3.1 liter automatic. Of course the 75HP nitrous shot really helps get it there along with a high flow cat and a 3 inch catback with Dynomax muffler.
2.8's and 3.1's arent that far apart are they? .3 liters doesnt seem to be that much, but would the better technology have anythin to do with it? Does anyone know the process for getting ur car on a track? right now out in the wine country we just ghetto time our 1/4 miles on a long straight stretch we have measured out. anyone here have track experience?

Thing is 3.1's are stroked...15 more ft lbs, 5 more hp. 15 ft lbs is a pretty good number..that's like one fairly big mod.
hmm....kinda makes me want to track down a 3.1....but i like the 2.8, its sits almost completely behind the front axle, makes for some very good handling. but yeah.. i wish i had a friend with a 3.1 so i could see what they're all about

The 3.1 and 2.8 are the same basic engine, but the 3.1 has a longer stroke. Think about it this way, the 3.1 is only .3 liters larger, or about 17 cubic inches, but that extra displacement makes it 10% larger than the 2.8 liter. The 3.4 is 10% larger again than the 3.1 liter, and has better heads to boot. There is no replacement for displacement, except maybe superchargers and of course, nitrous!
I haven't taken my car to a track, but I would like to sometime. I just wanted better street performance. Besides, the only tracks within 100 miles of here are all 1/8th mile. I would still like to go to one sometime, though. I would have to travel to Bowling Green, KY, about 2 hours, to get to the nearest 1/4 mile track.

I ran a 17.6 on the 1/4 mile with a bad transmission mount, 18"wheels, and my entire sound system in the car. If i had my system removed, my 15" wheels and ran now with my mount fixed I'm guessing I'm running high 16's.
