I think this is what's causing my bad gas mileage. AT BEST I get 17 MPG, mostly city. Either that, or it's the California gas.

I've had exhaust leaks before (busted header, slashed pipe before cat, hole in pipe just before muff, hole in muff, you name it), they are pretty unmistakable just about anywhere they are located at. The "tick tick tick" is close to what you'll hear, but you'll hear it get louder and deeper when the engine is under load. Oh, that "tka tka tka" might only mean your valves need adjusting ... they tend to make a similar sound like that when needing done, though the posability is there for something else.

One thing I've learned over the years is the sound of things. They annoy the hell out of me, if something is rattling I gotta find it and fix it or go ragging mad.

S.K.

it sounds like someone is taking a clock, speeding it up, and making it tick in your ear. It's most noticable under acceleration. I just fixed mine and it helped my milage a little. was missing the bolts on the #5 cylinder connecting the manifold to the head. Got new bolts and a new gasket, no more ticky ticky. Now I get about 25MPG hwy and 20 city. Not bad for a 15 year old car.

Its one of the worst sound's you want to hear after you spend two days getting rid of the driver side exhaust manifold leak just to have the passenger side leak aa few weeks later.

The HITHERE get activated by singluarl vowels, the letters inbetween the c's
cAc
cEc
cIc
cOc
cUc
you can trick it by putting
aa,ee,ii,oo,uu

What's wrong with 17 MPG in the city?
I KNOW YOUR DRIVING STYLE!
YOUR CAR IS AN ELDER CITIZEN ON THE ROAD
IT'S LOADED WITH WEIGHT
Stop driving with Amber, find a lighter girlfriend, remove that magic heavy duty loaded up with FOUR SUPERSIZED SLURPEES 4th Gen Console
And your milage will increase.
While your at it, LOOSE MORE WEIGHT FROM YOUR BODY
Guaranteed increase your milage to 20 MPG!
That TICK TICK TICK?
You just saw another San Fernando Hottie & it's your heartbeat racing faster
Damn 90* weather brings the girls out & the clothes off!
Don't drive to Burbank, as the girls are cuter, there!
PS a distinct White powdery trail from exhaust manifolds & no it's not from doing lines of cocain on the manifold while working on the car!
AND ya can feel the escaping heat pulses.
17 MPG ain't nothing to complain about.
Driving around checking out the Hotties without Amber is a sure cause for more trouble, tho!

LOL @ Karl...
actually you could actually take her racing it won't make much of a difference... 105 lbs is nothing compared to the weight of this car!
AND 4 Slurpees is a lot better than running the a/c w/ my low freon... lol.
But how come other people are getting like 22 in the city??? Is it really our CA gas that gives us crappy gas mileage???

I would SAFELY Assume
that others have longer streets than our, thus less lights & stop & go.
Beyond that, if the car runs good & strong and you can afford gas, really I wouldn't worry.
BUT SERIOUS age of engine does play MAJOR factor in gas milage.
My 3.4 the gas milage went up, as I use less pedal to go forward (TORQUE RULES!).
Our old 1970 Caddy Sedan de Ville with the 472 CID?
GOT EXCEPTIONAL GAS MILAGE.
Who needed to touch the pedal? SO MUCH TORQUE!
Glad ya got the laugh!

Never took account of longer streets. That's probably why David has better gas mileage because Moorpark is very open. I, on the other hand, hardly ever get on the freeway. And those weeks I do get on the freeway, I'm lucky if I get 20 mpg. But to each his own.
Karl, ya headin to Flame's fri nite?

Hey, i live in the valley. The corner of Saticoy and Winnetka to be more precise, and I get really good milage. I live in the middle of the ghetto, kinda scary with my car. Always afraid it's gonna be gone in the morning when I wake up. My mileage is like 20 mpg in the city, and I have really bad driving habits.

I never heard back from anyone that they'd be there.
I stayed and played with my 2 1/2 year old Son.
I even sent a certain someone and email & never a response.

OK I have an exhaust leak at the spot where the cat clamps to the t-pipe (a hiss). But the noise I hear coming from the manifold area sounds like the noise you make when you try and imitate a hamster (if anyone understands that)

FYI
You will ALWAYS find a "trail" with an exhaust leak.
The trail could be dark, black sooty or powdery white.
At the CC you installed?
