Replace the Oil Pan on V6
Replace the Oil Pan on V6
Has anyone ever replaced there oil pan on a 3.1 liter f-body. I am getting ready to do this and I am wondering if anyone that has done this can give me some pointers.
Thanks
Thanks
To do the job well, leak free
Pull the engine.
Concide to that detail & the rest is easy.
Serious.
Incidentally if the pan needs works so may the engine.
Been there are the cross road.
I just installed another 3.4, so much better for the effort.

I didn't have to replace the pan put I did have to replace the oil pump on my 2.8 which requires removing the pan. After getting the pan loose I did have to raise the engine some to get it to clear the frame support. Whenever you do replace your pan take the time to look at your oil pump screen and make sure that it isn't starting to get clogged with anything. Good luck. What I thought what would be a hour job turned into a 5 hour one.
Yes, you will have to raise the motor about 4 or 5 inches or so. I had to have mine changed for me. I had a broken hand at the time that I got when a guy pulled out in front of me and totalled my truck. The oil pan on the Firebird had a leak where I had run over a rock. They tried to take the front suspension down, and that didn't work at all. They raised the motor about 4 inches and snaked it out past the transmission. I went on and paid the $95 dollars and got a new pan from GM instead of trying to spend 4 hours getting a decent one out of a junkyard car.
