Help uninformed buyer

I am looking at an 89 Camaro RS with the 2.8 V6.

The car is in excellent shape and fits everything I want except the fact that it is a V6.

What I was wondering is what are the differences between the V6 and V8 camaros of that year? Are there suspension differences etc .
I would like to buy the car and do a swap as the guy is only asking 2K for the car?

Is it worth it to buy and do a V8 swap or should I just find a V8 to start with?

Thanks and I hope I did not confuse anyone.

if what you really want is a v8 car then it'd be easier to buy the v8 car. You have to remember to not stop at the first v8 car you see though, a throttle body injected v8 will be roughly as fast/slow as a v6 car if both are stock. A tuned port injection 305 v8 will only push 215 max factory horsepower, while a 350 v8 with tuned Port injection will be roughly 235-240 horsepower. The last two are slightly quick, while not lightening fast, and don't have near the power to run with the performance cars of today (325 horsepower trans ams and camaros; 350-405hp vettes; 265-390 horsepower mustangs) can still beat most of the **** though. If you want a pretty quick car as in 5.5-0 to 60 or so, i'd say invest in a 4th generation trans am or z28, the LT1 is pretty quick. And if you have no emissions to worry about and you're up for a motor swap, by a throttle body injected 305 v8, then put a 350 v8 in it, with a 4bbl car, nasty camshaft, and a stroker kit, w/o any of that emissions crap. lol...good luck with ur choice and keep the Q's coming.

???

So your saying that a built 350 Pushing about 330hp plus a Super Charger or Turbo will not hang with the 4th gens? I think that is what I got from the post.

I am not looking to have an 8 scond car I would just like to have a car down in the 10's.

Thanks for the advice on the cars though I will take that into consideration.

I am trying to find a V8 (350) but have not had a whole lot of luck yet (Not in my price range anyway)

Thanks again

if you're wanting a 10 second car, i'd say buy a cheap 3rd gen. Look for a thirdgen car, camaro, RS, Z28/ Firebird , formula with a 305 v8 and throttle body fuel injection. You'll use that as your base, as it'll have a large enough radiator for a 350, it'll also have a 700r4 made for a v8 car or a t5 for a v8 car. the other part that you'd like about it is that those cars are plentiful and cheap, probably as many if not more of those were made than v6 cars (rough estimate). This way, you can buy a nice looking car, with an underpowered motor, yet you won't have to change nearly as much as you would with a high performance version. So good luck once again.
