get out a 12v test light and start tracing the problem
have somebody step on the brakes and see if you are getting power and ground at the CHMSL terminal...........if not go down to the next part of the circuit and check for power and ground..........keep doing this until you find power and ground, you will then be able to isolate the problem in the circuit

I've had a lot of trouble with the socket on my '92. Upon replacing a burned out bulb I had to re-work the wire terminals on the new bulb in order for it to operate. That and some selective placement of the bulb in the socket.Originally posted by 92 RS JD

is your brake light at the top of your hatch window or in the spoiler? if its in the spoiler check the metal contact plate that gets power to the light in there, also pull the plastic trunk panel out and make sure the plug hasnt fallen out. when i got my car that plug was unplugged for some reason but the light still worked after i plugged it back in.

'92 will have a squarish-shaped third brake light "under" the hatch glass, inside the car.
