OK i have a 89 2.8 that doesnt like to start.. it starts opk in the morning. and after that crappy even if it is cold.?? my idle also jumps up quick to 3 grand and i thikn my tach is way off. but it jumps around i replace my maf my tps iac and it smokes on start up i know im probally not giving enough info put i dont knwo what to do and what you need to knwo please help

 

Does the tach itself just jump, or does the engine idle move around with it? You said your tach is off, so that could be an indicator it is going bad. If the engine jumps to 3 and then goes down, check for a vacuum leak possibly. How does the car run when it is warm?

 

Yes the idle jumps around along with the tach not just the tack and i have checked all my vaccume leacks and have found none im stumpd i dunno what to do. Its weird in the mornings it will start after a few seconds but after it sits for a while during the day it takes at least 15 and normally about 30 seconds to start. When its warm ( no more than two mins after shutting it off) it will start back up fine but after thoses two mins it takes forever. There is also a occasional gas smell in the car there are no gas leacks ( checked with gas analizer) but there is definattly a gas smell. Also if i turn ignition on off 3 times and start it some type of smoke comes out of my throttle body. Does that help what do you think it is???

 

three words....pic up coil.....in distuter...i would go ahead and rebild the whole thing!
