How I feel about my V6
The post about "If you had $3000 extra for your car, what would you do" inspired me to ask the above poll. I get impression that most poeple with a V6 really wish they had a V8 and are stuck with there V6 for some reason or another.
I personally would not ever put a V8 in my car even if everything was given to me for free and I did'nt have to worry about smog checks, etc.... I bought mine specifically because it was a lightweight V6 and I always intended to build it for cornering speed, and not for drag racing type speed.

I have to admit I love the V-6 cars.
I sold mine because I need money for school and I am just waiting till I get a few pay cheques so I can buy another V-6 car.
At first I have always wanted to own a V-8 car, but after owning the V-6 car I think its a great ride. I love the Iroc, and the GTA etc. but I look at those now and think someday I will own one as my collectors car I take to car shows, sort of like how I love seeing 69 GTO Judges, someday some kid will love to see an Iroc.
Right now I am looking for a car in my area, too much salt so its hard to find a decent car, and I will not buy a V-8 car. I am personally looking for a 2.8 or 3.1 car. So I have to say there a great car, I was pleased with my last one, and I am sure many others on the board love their V-6 as well.

I bought mine because in the future I could put a V-8 in the car when the V-6 Blows. Also the price ($12,999) and the insurance was cheep. I like my V-6 alot. The darn engine hasn't blown yet.
So I has to switch project.
I don't drive the car that much any more.
It seem to collect dust in the garage. But keeps the other car company.

I had to vote #3, its what was avaliable at the time, decent price. However, I am not complaining one bit that its not a v8. Gets decent gas milage, looks of looks. I wanted one to be reliable, but it has not done that. Sometime, I will have replaced everything, and it will be all new under the hood

2 years ago, I'd have voted #2, but now that I have a v8, I like my v6 for what it is.. LIGHT. I'm sure the other v8 guys will concur. So #1 it is, with the full intent of dropping her, beefing up the suspension, adding 16" wheels with decent rubber, popping on the turbo for the sake of giving her enough power to keep me grinning like an idiot, and carving the hell out of every unpopulated corner I can find. =)

Oh, and 1991, I'm seriously considering an all-aluminum quad-cam global V6.. even lighter than the aluminum SBC

I also have always liked the fact that I have the "underdog" and would always be overlooked because of the V6 as not being much threat- Will will find out on this Sunday when I finally run this car for the first time at the local AutoX and embarrass the V8's. I haven't run AutoX in close to 10 yrs and am looking forward to a few days of fun again this year. I stopped years ago from bordom- My'68 Vette just devastaed any competition here in So. Calif, even mostly the new Vettes at that time who were in a faster class rating couldn't beat me. This V6 will be an underdog, but a big suprize to all.

I'll admit my v6 was a fun car and I'm bummed that I have to sell it, but I have to say there's nothing like the first time you drop the hammer on a v8.

ok first...why does it say that i don't have permission to vote in the poll? oh well i'd just put in my 2 cents here.
I'm right in the middle of #2 and #4. When I set out looking for a camaro, my only stipulations were a V-8 and semi-low miles. Well I ended up compromising a little
, buying a V-6 with 112K miles. I bought it basically because it was the cleanest body/interior/engine/paint I had ever seen on a car like it (before I came to this board though...here I get blown away!) The 140 horses seemed like alot more when I was driving it, and I was pretty happy with the power. Probably 2 weeks later I decided that a new engine would be going into the car asap. It's just the cheapest way to get more power....if I could add 200hp to the v-6 without blowing it up or spending my life savings, I'd do it, but for now the most economical way to go is just buying a bigger engine. One thing is I just hate looking in my engine bay and seeing an entire foot of empty space between the front of the engine and the front fender, although I do admit it is easy to work on that way. So I started off kinda as a #2, buying the 6-banger and then discovering it didn't have adequate power for me, but then after 2 weeks I was a #4.

How about...
"I bought the damn thing, because it's a stick!"
Seriously, I'm between #1 and #2. I like the car and all... being light as hell and whatnot, but dang guys. A Civic VTEC can outrun me. (16.48 vs 17.07) That'll be fixed within another couple weeks

My V6 Camaro was my first car. Bought it because I was used to driving my dad's Chevy Cavalier with a 4 cylinder. I figured, ok, it's a Camaro...so it's a sports car. And it's got a V6, which is definitely bigger than a 4, and most new, fast imports only have 4's or 6's... And the car was "seductive" in paint and styling. I was happy with the performance-for about two weeks. Modified the car a little bit, had my fun with it, but I found a moderately modified V8 for a good price that runs great....and here I am. I still miss my Camaro though. I would never have sold it if it wasn't absolutely essential to do so to keep the V8... Wish I could buy it back....I know the blonde bimbo isn't going to take care of my baby like she should.

Well; not really a category for my vote, so...
I bought my car because for the money, it was the best condition f-body I could find. Every v8 car was a beater; if the body & interior were in great condition, the motor was smoking oil; if the motor was in great shape, the body was beat to hell. To get a good-shape v8 car at the time, it was around $6-8000! (Got mine for $2700.) I didn't really care what motor was in there. I wanted a car that I didn't look like a broke SOB in!

Edit: I have to laugh at this "soft Taco" character that has been posting- Must be a V8 guy- I love his quote in the $3000 post that no f-body will touch a 944 porsche in AutoX. Soft taco, If you live in So.calif by chance, come on out to California Speedway this weekend (sunday)and watch a V6 f-body that will hand any 944 porsche its ***. I pull 1.07 g's on street tires partner!

# 3 to me... for Gas mileage, insurance and affordability... I liked the fact that I got a significant boost in power over my LG4 and still get 30 MPG on the highway... oh forgot to mention I have a 3.8L
Oh yeah... and I would also say that I got a phenomenal deal on this car... $6k from a truck dealership in the dead of winter...

My guess is the "I can beat this, and I can beat that" crap coming up again. I'm guilty of this myself sometimes.

I've stated beore that I have run an unofficial 15.8 then 15.9 back to back.
I've lost count on how much I've put into this perticular car. My guess is about $15,000 so far- The only thing that I have left to do to the suspension/drivetrain is Tubular front A-arms and K-member (waiting on Global West or Spohn to make a good setup- Don't want that crap from PA racing).I'm working on the new motor setup slowly- I'm well over half way there. Looking for 220-240hp and am very confident I will get it N/A with the motor I'm putting together. I will never sell it so I don't worry about what I have into it- I just build it the way I like it.
Edit; I have my new personalized plate ordered already: ONARAIL
ONRAILS was taken
That will look cool sitting next to my Vette with its plate: 60N2SEC

i chose 1 because i watched my cousin buy this car and build it up over the years. thats why i have always liked this car. i was very surprised when my cousin traded it in at the chevy dealership for a new grandam. i had to have this car. i talked to my dad and grandpa and we pulled are money together and bought it. the car is very fun to drive although its not a v8 its nice. its the fastest car at my school so im not complaining.

well my car was a present from my dad in gr9, he took me to see it at a gas station, i opend the hood and almost fell when i saw the room from the front of the car to the block, my dad knew if i got a v8 my driveway would be plastered with tire marks so he got me the car on one condition, that i get 70% or better in school and i get the car, well here i am 2 years later and my car is finaly finished but sadly i hit the passenger side rear quater as i was backing it in
i was spining the tires in reverse and wasent looking and then bang

when i got mine i was told it was a 305 by the guy. did all the body work and went to go change the plugs and wires and what do i find.... only 6, i was like ok asked around had a friend check it out, and his first word were, "oh thats a lil old v6" man was a mad!and the only reasion i got the car was because the engine was rebuilt, and me thinking ya a rebuilt v8 who cares about the body work as long as the engine is good. i wish i knew then what i knew now i would have got a GTA. oh well, life goes on right..

first one (my 85) I bought because my other car died. Didn't find too much and was similar to Tom's situation -- V8 ones were beat to snot.
The other two (83 and 86) were bought for 300 and 250 respectively. They were complete cars so I reallly didn't care about what size motor they had.

I like the way the Z28s and IROCs look way better than the SC. Originally I was going for an IROC or Z28. I actually thought that the car I ended up buying was one when I headed out to look at it. But the V8s were in far worse shape than any of the V6s and were 2-3 times as much on top of everything. So I went with the SC and I'm really glad I did. I know I'll never have the power of a V8, but when this thing is running properly for once (it hasn't run properly for more that a couple of months in 5 years), it will have more than enough power to make me happy. I love my car and I wouldn't give it up for $20,000. Plus it had to be a 5 speed. I can't stand all the hot sports cars out on the road with autos. It makes me sick.

Oh, you got something against autos?? Huh?? J/k...
They're way boring...but they're VERY easy to race in. We'll see how much you dislike autos once I get my brand spankin new tranny and 3000 stall converter...muahaha. Can't wait to chirp second. I think this tranny might actually drop my times from 14.5 to like 14.2, maybe even less. It's got slippage so bad that I can actually FEEL it now in first gear..slips shifting too.
But man....I still wish I had my Camaro... Sigh.
