I read 160 on mine.

Honestly, it's not the number you're looking for on a compression test... You want less than 10% variance among all 6 cylinders. All mine were 160psi +/- 5psi - nicely within spec.

Unless you mean compression ratio... 8.9:1 on the 2.8 mpfi.

i knew about the variance thing, but i did not know what they should be in general, i am planning to test that 86 before i buy. new engines should have good compression

a new engine should have 155+

If he's installed a longer duration cam, tho, well... the dynamic pressure at such low rpms will bleed off pressure quickly! There should be less than 1% variation, tho, with a brand new engine.

Besides, just look at the engine. If it's all gunked up, you know it's not new, right?
