4 Speed overdriven auto to 5 speed manual help! ('88 firebird)
Ok, I've had this '88 'bird for awhile, and had something go terribly wrong in the bottom end (still trying to find out what -- thinking possibly something in the Cam or crank )
So to remedy, I bought an '86 firebird, exact same engine, only it had a 5 speed (all the more reason to buy to me!). (AND by the way, if anyone needs parts off this thing, e-mail me (rjsalamon@hotmail.com) with what ya need and I'll see what I can do). So we started pulling engines/trannies...
Well after pulling both, and removing pans and valve covers, front ends and heads, I remember NOT unhooking a speedometer cable from the tranny, just a four wire connection. On the 5 speed, there was an actualy speedometer cable though...
I really want to use that tranny (the five speed), but I dont know how to do that swap. Is there anyway to use the 5 speed, being that it had the cable, instead of the automatic, which didn't (like I said, it just had that four wire plug, and now that I think of it, a two wire back near where the driveshaft came in, and it's my guess the two wire one is the speedometer?).
Anyone else run into this trouble, or can at least tell me how to remedy it? Thanks a bunch!

P.S. I'm brand new to this forum! I've been troolin' awhile though
