Corvette 50th Anniversay is JUNE 28th!

I know this isn't all tech
BUT
The Corvette vehicle name is gonna be 50 years old this weekend.

Every 3rd Gen member has a lot to be thankful for with a Corvette.

Because of Corvette, Camaro/Firebird was made by General Motors (yes Mustang played BIG ROLE, too).
Corvettes brought LOTS of performance items to the masses that were incorporated into our F Body rides.

When ya see a Corvette on the road, give them a wave with your HAND.

Enjoy viewing all the Corvettes you'll be seeing. I'm out driving my old 1974 and it always feels great (even with the worn rear posi groans I get lately).

Best part, I hope I inspire anyone to go to CHEVY dealership and talk them into letting YOU go for a test drive!

This picture shows ya what a 1953-1955 Corvette looks like, so when ya see one, ya know!

Dale personally knows what a 1955 Corvette looks like.
I had, in my family, a 1954 for while.
Yeah lots of fun to drive this vintage Corvette, too!
No, this color shown or the wheels, not stock.
Just a very nice picture, too!

Yeah it all started here!
Enjoy the Corvette parading around your town this week!

I KNEW YOU'D KNOW!!
ACTUALLY,
This was taken at the last offical Tustin Thunder show, I was one of the last ones out, after I took this pic.
One of my most favorite pics I ever shot.

PS I was chased out, as I did DOUGHNUTS after this pic!
It's the James Dean Rebel streak I was born with!

I ONLY WISH Tustin Thunder would return.
It was a privlidge to be a participant in that show, such fun & memories of only three very short years!

SAVE THE WAVE!

I didn't know there was such a thing as an SS Corvette.... ZO6? ZL1? Or perhaps they just put the letters of SS on it.

I've seen a few Corvettes drivin' around here lately, I wish that there was a Camaro wave like the Jeep wave, but anytime I go to wave to a fellow f-body driver, I never get anything back! But I've been givin' the thumbs up and wavin' to the Corvettes and they seem to be responsive!!

I BELIEVE THE ONLY
Corvette SS
was a car created by Zora Arkus Duntov for engineering purposes.
This was back in the late 50's.
NOW anyone can put a badge on anything & claim....
Yea I now wave at ANY MUSCLE CAR (except new Mustangs unless the person is cool at the light)
BECAUSE
Ya know what $hit one goes thru to own a muscle car these days?
ESPECIALLY THE OLD ONES?
Saw some kid in his 1969 Firebird behind me at light (I was in Vette)
I turned around, smiled and BIG THUMBS UP for him & his girlfriend.
We had a nice time just cruising away from the stop light! Pride & style for our shining moment
It takes lots of flake from others and lots of grief from the "old contraption" to own an old Muscle car these days.

Here's what I mean about my "old Contraption!"
That is the original rear bumper cover that has destingrated due to age, & sun.
That bumper cover was created on Aug 17 & Aug 13, 1973. My Corvette has never been hit in rear. ALL it's life! Tapped, yes, hit never!
I will of course repair it one day at about $400 or less. I get more personal pride driving it this way right now! I await the day I retire again for fixing the body.

LUCKILY J & D Corvette (HI Dennis) is offering me their product to repair this problem at a great price.
800-VETTEJD
J & D manufactures many fiberglass or Flexiglass parts for Vettes.
My front nose is starting to look like that, now, too.
I have one crack on nose piece dead center.........
1973 was first year for the 5 MPH bumper
1974 was the first year for the front & rear 5 MPH bumpers.
My Dad's 1974 Corvette was once rear ended by a 1966 Caddy.
The Caddy was CREAMED in the front.
My Dad's 1974 Corvette?
Needed only a tailight lense replaced!
Yeah that rear black horizontal bar is SOLID aluminum! AND NO shocks, just bolted onto frame, & designed to slide forward, absorbing crash impact.

But when the T Tops off & no tunes playing, I enjoy the Headers & 2 1/2" pipes very very much!
The car only has 139,000 original non rebuilt engine & tranny miles on it! Do the math & I'll help..
The car is (manufactured August 29th 1973) 30 years old now....
PS-interior is 99% PERFECT.
Engine is 100% original & intact (try buying a complete 1973-75 Corvette Air Cleaner assembly set up & get heart attack at the price!!)
Interiors go for about $2,000 EASY!
Body is easy fixings......
Replacing body frame rubber mounts.. another story...!

My parents own a 1965 Sunbeam Tiger (F*rd powered, I know...) but still a fun classic to drive.

Karl, That Corvette you have there sounds like quite a prize to keep!! I hope you one day find the time and money to have your fun with it!!

I'll give ya short lesson on old Corvette ownership.
I kept car off road for over 6 months fixing brakes so I could safely drive it.
I had to rewire center console area, as previous owner decided extra wires almost gounding out & shorting/sparking was better idea.
I had to replace Flexplate
I rebuilt entire front & rear suspension.
As in new springs, bearings, linkage (still need to rebuild STEERING BOX & entire power steering stuff)
I went thru three rear fiberglass leaf spring breaking on me while driving (finally installed steel leaf spring & never a problem since)
I ripped entire rear assembly & gas tank out from car (up to back seat on underside), laid on back & seriously wondered how I'd put it all back together.....
I scraped tar/rust inhibitor from entire back half underside using chemicals & 1" scrapper ONLY!
After I rebuilt rear axle assembly, a seal failed & I had to remove a trailing arm. Then that happened again, got the repair job down to 1/2 hour now!!
I've done the oil pump & timing chain as the original balancer was separating (I was there!). When I removed timing gears, 1/3 of plastic timing gear parts were in oil pump screen!
Many times the brake lights will short out (GM steering column turn signal indicator is the problem-needs replacing, got part, was discontinued, fun search!) and NOT WORK!
I let my Wife drive the Corvette ONCE (she was then girlfriend/fiance).
SHE CRACKED DESTROYED TWO YEAR ONLY (1973/74) CENTER GRILL I HAD BOUGHT FOR $31.
TOOK ME ABOUT 3 weeks to locate a "CHEAP" new one!
I took it outta her engagement ring fund & it cost me ONLY $150!!! Other prices were $400 IF AVAILABLE
Leaks?
PLEASE
Creeks & groans?
PLEASE
As you see in previous pic I can make it very nice.
I have a 1967 RS/SS 350 4-speed Camaro Convertible I'm restoring, too.
I use the Corvette as a "Daily Driver".
My car has had 11 previous owners since Iowa in Sept 1973.
Of all past owners, I'm the one whom has kept this car longest.
I also paid least of all purchases ($4800-yes it looked better, see above)
That back bumper cover, oh well..... Part of the cars charm.......
People don't tend to tailgate me very much ;>!
When the tops off, tunes on, or off (I do like the exhaust sound...) I enjoy my Makenna (I named car after my favorite nude beach on Maui) alot.
It took me 19 years to say I own a Corvette again.
This 1974 is "special" as it's rather early (8/29/73 date) production model, very very original & intact, easy to restore when time comes..
PS again, interiors cost about $2500 to restore (mine is original & near perfect), engine is just more money (it still runs strong-so it puffs blue in AM....).
Body is intact, just needs front rear bumper covers & paint.
I also own 5 cars & three motorcycles & a almost 3 year old Son & 2 houses.
I've kept all during this "period" of growing up (Y grow up? Ya get wealthier to afford to fix posessions!).
Await until it's "your turn" and see how easy it is to "fix some things ;>"!!
Lesson over!
