trans problem
ok i got a 97 v-6 camaro. obviously that why im in this board. ok here is the deal, when i start off in first gear i can hear a little knocking down right under neith me. like something is skipping. it only does this when i accelerate fast. and it does the same thing in second. i can feel it spudder when it skips. also the weirdest thing happens, my shift stick moves up and down, im not talking about back and forth between gears but actually vertically and when it goes down it feels like the trans lifts off the mount and then slams back down. i checked underneith the trans and it is attached. HELP...i dont wanna tear into it with no ideas whats wrong with it. does anyone have a clue
thanks

Probably a busted trans mount. Crawl under the car, and try to bench-press the transmission up towards the sky. Everything will pivot on the motor mounts so you don't need to be a weightlifter to move the back of the trans up. IF you're pushing as hard as you can and the back of the trans does NOT move up, the trans mount is okay.
Seriously it only takes maybe 5 pounds of pushing to move the back of the trans "towards the sky" if the trans mount is shot.

Another thing you might wanna check (Me and my brother in law just fixed his, had almost the exact same problem your having) is your driveshaft. His mounts was out of shape and we replaced it but the knocking noise was still there. In the middle of the 4th gen drive shafts it has a two bolt mount, his was broken in half, have no idea how it happened. The bad part is if this is what is wrong with yours you can't buy that part seperate, its on the driveshaft. We got one out of the junkyard from a 97 for $40. Hope this isn't your problem but check that also.
