Need your advice.

I searched for this, but couldnt find anything. There is a tech article about this, but it is for TBI and TPI applications.

How difficult is it to convert my motor to a carb setup? I really wanna get underneath my hood and start taking everything out, its too cramped in there.

So I will need.. a carb intake manifold, a carb, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump(?), but what else?

I wanna increase my engines longevity, and in my eyes, getting rid of all the automated computer controlled crap is a good start. Thats just the way I was raised with engines. Go figure.

Performance wise, is this a better route? Not that performance is the main issue, if I wanted all out performance I might have kept looking at Z-28s.

Anyways, if you have any insight or can point me where I should look, I would really appreciate it.

{no fuel pump, get regulator with return line. you have a good pump, use it.}

What size engine is it? I would say MPI gives better throttle response and to keep that you need computer junk.

But, If you want to convert to carb from FI you must rip out the ECM, every fuel component under your hood, be ready to route new fuel line as FI systems usually bring the fuel line by the firewall and carbs came up the front from the mechanical fuel pump that you will need to install not to mention the matter of what to do with your old electronic in-tank pump. You will either A: Have to get an older fuel tank or B: rig a toggle switch to your electronic pump. You will also need a different intake. Replace the electric fan with an old clutch fan or flex fan...or you could rig a toggle switch to that too...I guess. not to mention little things like the water pump studs for the clutch/flex fan. Then there is the matter of the ignition system which I couldn't really tell you much on what you would need to do to convert that because electric wiring is my weakness but, I do know enough to ask the question...Do you have VATS?

Someone feel free to correct me and elaborate if any of this is wrong. I'm only human.

Hmm.. doesnt sound worth it anymore. I was just looking to do this so my car would be easier to work on, but It sounds like i'd probably just make things worse than they already are.

Don't let me discourage you. All I'm saying is it is going to take alot of common sense and the project is time consuming. Just relax and take your time. Aim to do like one or two things a day and if you feel like you got more energy and you have that warm fuzzy feeling of accomplishment, by all means take it one or two more steps that day. Whenever fatigue sets in it is always a good idea to get away from the project and go relax for awhile or just chill for the rest of the day. Fatigue = Mistakes. Don't be all rushed about it. If that is your only transportation, I would suggest to just leave it alone and try to learn it rather than be intimidated. I failed on alot of projects but, I learned from my mistakes and fixed those failures. That's the great thing about cars bro. You can screw up on most things and turn around and fix your own screw up. It becomes costly but, what other way is there to learn?! Like the first time I ever changed a head gasket. It was on a 5.7 chevy. I torqued the heads from the rear to the front. I warped the head gasket. So I shelled out another $15 for anothe head gasket, ripped it apart and re-installed the new gasket and this time I followed torque patterns. Engine ran like a champ. Fear is a weakness. Don't be intimidated by cars. There are more important things to be afraid of.

Good write up, it's well recieved.

I really cant afford to screw up my Camaro, its a daily driver. Like I said before I was thinking that a carb application would be easier to diagnose, repair, alter, etc.

But your right, I should probably leave it alone. I wanna save up some money and buy another third gen.. and have some fun tinkering
