Another Question from the little guy... 2.8 compatible with 3.1?

Hey guys, I have another small question...

I dropped a 2.8 V-6 from a 1988 Firebird into my 1991 3.1 V-6. With everything hooked up, are the computer parts compatable? We had a problem with the EGR valve wireing harness' coming together. I'm trying to explain this the best I can, I'm not too bright when it comes to cars...

Thanks, Firebirdjoe

as long as you use the accessories, harness, ECM, etc. from the '91 you should be fine. Good luck with it.

with the EGR, reuse the one from the 3.1.
More then likely the 2.8 one is a vacuum oriented one, not electronic.

If you have any doubts about compatibility, remove the sensors from the 3.1 and install them on the 2.8.

Which ECM & wiring harness did you use, the one from the 2.8l or the original one from the 3.1l?

The reason I ask is that they are completely different and will be the deciding factor on a number of things. IE: The 3.1l in the '91 uses a MAP sensor, whereas the 2.8l from the '88 uses MAF.
