A/C - Heater Vacume Hoses

The heat will only blow from the defroster. So Im pretty sure that I wanna replace all those hoses down there and recharge the a/c so I can have it workin again.

Does anyone know any part numbers (or could I goto pep boys and just buy universal vacume hose and cut to length ?), or if I should be replacing something else.

A/C you're probably going to have to convert your R12 system to R134, unless it was done in the past. Can't find R12 hardly anywhere, and they charge an arm and a leg for it if you can scrounge some up.

Here are some things for you to check. When you are running the system in any position, vent, max, norm, do you hear any hissing? If you do they you should check all the connections and make sure they are secure. Now you said you only had air coming out of the defroster. By default GM designed the system to only come out of the defroster if something was broken. More than likely you have a vent door stuck or a vaccum motor that needs to be replaced. There are four motors and they look like the picture I attached. I had a problem with hissing and the air would not come out where I wanted. I just found the control unit was bad and replaced it.

Yeah, at the back of the control unit, there's a round disc with colored vacuum lines sticking out of it. When you slide the control lever from "off" to "a/c" down to "defrost", a disc inside spins, and directs vacuum to the right ports. The seal inside probably went bad. I think you can just buy the seal from the dealer... if you do a search on the tech board, you'll find more messages about it...

They charge so much for R12 (in case none of you knew) because it's illegal in the US to make any new R12. All the R12 that you can buy is recycled, and the supplies are running out- both make for a more expensive recharge.

And you can still (just checked a few days ago) get certified to buy R12 by going to http://www.epatest.com and taking the online certification test!
