I have a 1987 camaro 2.8, when i start the car and let it sit for awhile running it starts to knock after about 15-20 minutes at ideal. I don't notice it when i drive it just when it has been sitting at idle for a long time!! I have 16000 so it is in need of a rebuild i guess? Is that knocking fixable?

You can try one of 2 things. First off, is the knocking comming from the block or from the valve covers??? If from the block (loweri in the engine, you might be screwed), if it's coming from the valve covers, you might have a misadjusted valve. You can try putting in thicker oil and see if that helps, it'll help dampen the sound, not so much get rid of it. If the valve is misadjusted, you can take the covers off, adjust them, and be on your merry little way. Also something you could check for is exhaust leaks. They sound like this horrible knocking/ticking sound. Check right where the manifold meets the head, if a bolt snapped of then it causes a leak. When the engine is cool and nothing has expanded, all of the peices fit together nice and tight...no noticable sound, but when the motor heats up, everything expands and without a bolt there to keep the manifold lined up against the head, it won't "seal" as well and make a ticking noise. Cool man i think you just saved me!! i did notice a crack in the exhaust haeder!! Well actually the guys who did my exhaust broke of the ridge around the screw is thir a way to patch it or just get a new header?

just go down to the junk yard and get on off a V6 thirdgen. I'm sure that you might even be able to talk to some of the people here that have purchased headers from various sources, they might have their old set left over. Also, headers might be the way you want to go. If you have the money, they are a great way to up the output of your motor. There is a sicky at the top of the page about them. Apparently they are high quality. AGood2.8 has them, and man are they pretty. We are also trying to get Pacesetter to make a set for us.
